Nice property, needs maintenance though
Bolton Hotel was very nice, with courteous staff and above-average bedding. They have a memorable furry blanket which feels like wearing a Wookiee. The cons are few but potentially significant. The shower has a ridiculous half door which I suppose looks stylish but just gets water all over the floor no matter how careful you are. The space in between floors was not insulated well enough and transmits vibration. When our upstairs neighbor walked into his bathroom, we could hear a loud metallic vibration rattle through our air vents which woke us up. The thermostat does not care what you tell it to do, your room will always be 19C. The kitchenette is nice, and well furnished, but some appliances just didn't work. The toilet had a broken part which the staff never found in all their room cleanings, apparently. So this is a nice place, but they need to keep up the attention to detail when it comes to room maintenance.

Convenient Hotel with Poor Concierge
The concierge was less than helpful on two occasions. First, informing us of tours of parliment but failing to offer to coordinate our booking. Second, arranging a car service to the airport for 5 individuals. Not sure why this hotel even has a concierge.

Dining and noise issues.
We arrived around 4 after a long ferry ride from Picton the ferry was delayed an hour leaving Picton and then when we got to Wellington we were not able to disembark for over half an hour because of an issue with the gangplank. Having only had breakfast, we were looking forward to an early dinner at the hotel. To our dismay, the restaurant was fully booked until 8 and only snacks were available at the bar and room service. It was pouring rain and we didn't want to walk to find a place to eat. We'd valet parked our car and didn't want to venture out in Saturday night traffic, so ended up getting a cab. Would much rather have eaten at the hotel as we were very rushed because we had to be somewhere for a 6:45 tour. Our room was opposite the gym which didn't close until 11, which was also less than ideal.

Sparkling, friendly, and stylish
The Bolton was amazing, especially for the price. The room was spacious and spotless (with a view) and the staff were extremely helpful! A private party was going on in the restaurant, so we didn't get a chance to check it out but did get room service breakfast, which was delicious. The hallways are lined with local art and the whole city is walkable once you step out the door!
