Stayed there for a wedding, but the overall condition of the hotel and level of service left much wanting. Cleaning a room took all of a minute. Reminds you of a larger Fawlty Towers..

Disappointing stay for one of the most expensive hotels in the area. Beds are really uncomfortable. Daily cleanings in the room were superficial at best with no restocking of supplies. Varied quality of service in restaurant from good to bad. Will not revisit.

hotel or not hotel?
The hotel; is in three parts: guest, time-share and leisure club. Of the three the guests are less well looked after. Our bath was stained and chipped and should have been replaced long ago; although advertising lots of activities most incurred a charge. We wanted to play bowls - but there is no bowling rink; we wanted to play croquet but ' someone stole the hoops last year' and they have not been replaced; pitch and put flags have no numbers so what is the course?. We asked why there was no furniture on our balcony; answers were - it is unsafe; it is not a balcony; I will tell the duty manager; we heard not more about that and like other guests we dragged out chairs from the room to the outside. Fine dining: we asked for apple sauce for our pork - we are still waiting. This is well below the standard we expect of a Macdonald hotel.

A brief overnight stay
We had booked the hotel because we had a day's sailing from Lymington. Consequently, we arrived incredibly early to park up for the day and then didn't actually check in until very late. The staff were very helpful but arriving in the dark is not really conducive to understanding the layout of the place. Consequently, we spent quite a long time in the morning wandering around the grounds trying to find out where breakfast was being served. We also then had to leave early, so didn't get chance to explore properly, but the place seemed very tranquil and the views looked superb.
