Good 6.0
I would actually recommend this hotel for several reasons - it is very close to a tram station that is only three stops away from the Amsterdam central train station; there is a large supermarket called "Jumbo" right across the street; it has a good breakfast buffet; and the front desk staff were excellent. Also, the beds were comfortable. Howeverr, the cleaning staff did not give us clean glasses and remove the used ones. Also, the shared bathroom was not well-serviced. I had to call the front desk to have toilet paper replenished. (They did that right away). There was also noise from across the street into the evening and a guy was using what appeared to be a weed-whacker at 7am one morning. But, as noted above, the pluses outweighed the negatives, so I would recommend the hotel.

Poor 2.0
Horrible homophobia
Well where to start, i guess the main place is in the title. I am female, i have a beautiful female fiancee, we had been booked into this hotel as a couple, in a double room for my 30th birthday celebrations as a gift. When we arrived the room wasn't quite ready so we returned 2 hours later to find a change in staff on reception. We explained we'd come back to check in and were again told it wasn't ready. We were worried now so I asked what the hold up was to be told by staff "a mistake had been made. We'd been given a king bed and clearly as we were both women we should have 2 single beds". I corrected the receptionist to explain there was no mistake we were partners and shared the same bed. She gave me a look of pure horror and disregarded my partner making disapproving looks and muttering something in her own language then not english. I repeated what i had explained and then she turned away to make a call to someone, again in her langage. After a few minutes we were given a room key and told to go to end of hall and down, but no other information or welcome. I was disgusted, as was my partner. We felt angry and hurt. This set the mood for the rest of our trip sadly as the same person was present at the hotel and gave us the same artitude throughout our stay. We complained and i did get an email offering us a compensation 1 night stay hotel only, but i would never stay here to feel oestrosised again.

Great quirky hotel
If you like walking, only half an hour to city centre. Quiet area with a couple of good eateries nearby. Staff in hotel were great, good service and friendly. Bar a little expensive, but then so is the whole city. Rooms are spacious and quirky, the hotel was previously a prison. I would happily stay here again. Check walking distance to attractions, when I booked it said a local attraction was 680m away, it was in fact 4500m away.

Quirky and unique place to stay.
We arrived and got parked in the underground carpark (expensive at 25 euros per day but really close to the hotel) and got checked in. We were told we'd been upgraded from 2 star to 3 star which was great. Our room was lovely, but it was twin beds when we were expecting a double. One of the staff (super helpful and patinet Samuel) kindly moved us to another room, again really unique, and we got settled in. The wardrobe was broken - the key had broken in the lock so it couldn't be opened - and given the room was one large wet room with the shower in the middle of the floor, we asked to be moved (not wanting wet clothes). Our third and final room (604) was in the attic and was lovely. Large with a huge bed and a window looking out over the water. The radiator was huge and kept the room really warm, impressive given the concrete floor and 3 degree temperature outside. One thing worth noting is that there was no curtain or blind. We were not over looked, and it didnt get light til 8.30am, so not a problem. Could be an issue for a summer stay though. The bathroom was separate and although the shower was great, there is no curtain or door so the floor gets exceptionally wet. It's a good walk out of the centre, but if you don't mind a 20 minute walk, a short tram ride or hiring bikes, it's nice to be in a wide open space. Great coffee shop accoss the road and a nice bar called Roest 10 minutes walk away.

Great return visit
Stayed in an economy room for 1 night on a quick trip to Amsterdam. Whilst located out of the city transportation links are excellent and the extra space offered is well worth it. Second time staying at this hotel and would definitely recommend. There are rooms to match all pockets and travel groups.
