    OK- beware of extra fees!
The hotel was an older updated hotel which was updated with an art deco theme. We went to the wrong Kimpton in the area. Be advised there is a Kimpton Solamar and Kimpton Palomar! We parked at the wrong hotel, then Ubered to the correct hotel. Valet parking is $49 a night. Internet is $13 a day. Ridiculous add on fees. Would not stay at location again due to extra add on's. For the price paid per night, I was not impressed with the hotel itself.

    Thrilled with my Hotel Stay
I was thrilled the hotel was as close to my conference Hotel. I was told almost a mile away, and was not even 1/4 mile !!! Nice as I was walking. Everyone at hotel was pleasant and helpful!!!!

    A bit dirty
We have stayed in a few Kimpton hotels before and were a bit disappointed with this one. Felt a little dirty everywhere. Room included. The hotel itself looked a little beat up here and there and very dark. Maybe to hide things they didn't want you to notice. As most of their hotels, they do have an interesting style and that's the most positive I can be.

    Great location
We really liked this hotel. The staff is great, the pool is great, the pool bar is great. They are really dog friendly. It's a bit tricky with dogs though, you have to take an elevator (naturally, as it is a hotel, not a one level motel) and there's not much green outside. (Walk towards the convention center to get to a park, or even "over" it to get to a seaside park. There are stairs by the trolley crossing.) If your dog is used to city living the location won't be a problem. And if you're just a normal tourist with no dogs you'll love this place. Some other things if you don't know San Diego: We parked at Ace parking one block south, $15/day. If you visit Balboa Park, go early to get good parking, before 10 am. Avoid busy "Free Tuesday" if possible! There's a dog park on the west side of the park. And Coronado off-leash dog park is awesome.
