Wedding Aniversary Treat.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The young lady in The Champagne Lounge was very friendly and made excellent cocktails. Best breakfast ever accompanied by excellent service. The tour was informative and entertaining. If you get the opportunity, stay!

A night in Jail
Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The Reception staff were welcoming and informative. Our cell was was something else, being three cells knocked together! The furnishings made the room extremely comfortable. Bathroom facilities were excellent except for requiring a plastic Ikea basin to be placed in the sink to allow wet shaves because there is no plug! This is because of listed building regulations. However, this being the case, a more shaped, up market insert basin would have been appropriate for an high end hotel. Take an electric razor! The Champagne Bar and Chapel Restaurant were fabulous. The food was a very tasty, well presented, four course meal with Champagne and Cocktails. The staff were very helpful and interested. The following day, we went to the Bodmin Jail experience that was so well done. An initial audiovisual presentation was thoroughly informative, followed by a visit to the museum section. All in all, the hotel and museum are very much recommended.

Amazing hotel experience let down careless errors
I have to say that this is one of the most amazing hotels I have stayed in for a long time. The conversion from jail to hotel has been done so sympathetically that you almost think it was purpose built as a hotel. The addition of the onsite attraction was an added bonus, answering all of your questions about what it was like before, etc. The food in the main restaurant was of an equally exceptional standard but unfortunately that was the source of a couple of issues which just shouldn't happen. My wife asked for the alcohol free beer but was told they had run out. Her next choice was a lime and soda but the lime had run out too. She was offered a soda water with a couple of slices of lime in it but this was charged at £1.20 for the soda water and £1.10 for the slice of lime! After a discussion the charge for the lime was removed. At dinner we ordered a bottle of Muscadet but were later told they didn't have any. When I asked for a Pinot Grigio that too was unavailable, and the same for the Sancerre. In fact the only white wines they did have started at about £80 a bottle... To be fair to the staff they were embarassed and, in the absence of any of any restaurant management, adopted a pragmatic solution of their own for which we were grateful. Fantastic stay in a fantastic hotel with a fantastic restaurant but much as I'd like I can't give it 5*

Good overall, excellent use of a character building. Service at dinner and breakfast was slow, bearing in mind there were only 4 covers in. Room was good, only one chair to relax in, we booked as a couple.

Had a great stay at this unique venue. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the room 'cells' were spacious, quiet with a touch of luxury. It was fascinating walking round the place and spotlessly clean throughout. Would definitely like to come back, especially as we missed the champagne bar.
