Slowly regaining status as a respectable hotel
We stay at the DeVere Selsdon Estate a couple of times a year while visiting family and have a love/hate relationship with the hotel. We desperately want it to succeed but get frustrated with the number of easily-fixable issues that undermine the overall experience. On the upside, although our room was tiny this time (requiring us to be very organized and communicative for our 6 night stay) it had beautiful views and was the first stay out of four where we didn’t have to move in the middle of the night due to noise. Yay for that! Breakfast has also improved significantly in both the system of service and in the food, including the ability to order lattes, but we still advise avoiding the eggs. Extending service by 30 mins daily would also be good. On the downside, the toiletries are poor quality and it seems you have to ask for them to be replenished (since this happens every time we’re not sure if it’s hotel policy or sloppy housekeeping, but whichever it is, please fix it. We’d also love some conditioner while you’re about it). Also on the downside it’s worth noting that there are multiple staircases without handrails, unexpected steps and ledges on doorways and bumps in the carpet that make every step a trip-hazard - we tripped a couple of times coming out of our room, both of which could have been really nasty accidents. While some of this is to be expected with the age of the property, there is definitely room for improvement - even if it would be a financial investment.

    Bride's nightmare
Traveled to England for my Cousin's wedding - and the family booked rooms at this hotel for the night prior to and the night of the wedding. The hotel and the grounds are absolutely beautiful - all that I expected based on the pictures online , visually it did not disappoint. However the entire experience was destroyed by the attitude of the staff at both the front desk and of the manager. Their customer service is almost non existent and clear that it is a trickle down from the attitude of management. Minor issues arose the night before the wedding that could have easily been solved with a little assistance and a good attitude towards a bride the night before her wedding and a bride that had 45 of her guests booked into the hotel. However every response and every reaction was one of standard response without ANY effort being made to assist, no solutions were provided for any of the problems.. I was greatly disappointed by the attitude of the staff at this hotel and Unfortunately because of this I cannot recommend it to anyone ……

Lovely so long as the room is a revamped one.
The first room we were given was very poor. It was small, worn and quite tatty... nothing like the picture of the room, which was shown when we booked. Having spoken to Reception, we were able to change rooms, which was very nice. Food was nice.
