Good location, no A/C.
Air conditioning not on, room was warm. Manager says government policy does not let them turn on A/C until over 26 degrees centigrade. Other hotels had A/C on.

Inexpensive, Close to the BUND, but no English
The stay was good over all. I speak a moderate level of Chinese and I had issues trying to communicate with the staff. They were extremely nice but they did not understand even the most basic of questions. Which is ashamed since this is a clean hotel at an inexpensive price that is only 4-6 blocks from the main shopping district. The hotel itself is in a very, very Chinese neighborhood. But it was safe. When you go out the front door turn left and keep walking in a relatively straight line and you will find the main shopping district of the Bund. When you see the GAP sign in front of you, you know that you are there. If you keep walk straight past the GAP store, there is a McDonalds on the left. If you instead turn left onto the main shopping street and walk about 10-12 blocks, you will be at the BUND walkway on the Harbor and you get a great view of one of the most beautiful cities in the world, especially at night Also take a night-time Harbor Cruise.. As you get closer to the Harbor there are lots of little shops with inexpensive souvenirs(On that walk to get from the Gap to the Harbor, there are 2 Starbucks on the right side of the road.) If when you first see the GAP, when you are first coming from the Hotel, you turn right, there will be some great Chinese Restaurants just about a 1/2 a block down the side roads to your right. If you keep going straight on the main shopping street then you will see a KFC, McDonalds and Starbucks after 3-4 blocks.

Terrible service, dirty
Hotel is in a good location, however the service was terrible people were rude. Rooms and hotel smell like cigarettes. Breakfast was terrible. Bathroom had mold and mildew. It was easy to clean but they did not bothered.

Could be a gem, but it isn't
Hotel restaurants were closed for remodeling (I was not informed of this at booking). I tracked some dried mud in on my first day on the bathroom floor. It remained all four days. Internet is a joke. Completely unreliable. You get a good connection, but when you try to access email or the web it says you have no internet connection. The hotel continually says "Oh, connection good, you okay", but not I am not. Numerous other hotel guests had the same complaint. I return home today and I can't wait, mainly because I want to lie on a mattress and not feel the springs. Seriously I can run my hand over the mattress and feel the springs. Worst mattress I have ever had the displeasure of sleeping on. My back is killing me and I don't suffer from back pain. This could be a nice hotel. Good location to see the "Real" Shanghai, nice lobby and hallways. Just need to fix the internet (both wifi and lan) clean the room carpet (filthy), clean the stains off the fabric headboard and chair. Do that and it would be a great place to return to
