Hotel needs updating
Hotel needs to be updated. We stayed here about 20 years and was excited to go back, but was very disappointed in the condition of the hotel . Mold in the shower ,grout missing in some tiles, calcium deposits on handles in shower/tub. Only one elevator in lobby, very slow.

Disappointing
Checked into hotel. All the carpet looked old and the furniture was dated in lobby. Hotel room was near indoor pool which was very loud, hot, and miserable. Our key wouldn't work at first. Room was so outdated and old! Very disappointed! Went to front desk to get a refund so we could go somewhere else, which of course they couldn't do. Front desk staff was very nice and helpful and moved us to the top floor in a very nice newly renovated room with a balcony and fire place! Overall this hotel was OK just needs to complete renovation.

Two Decent Pools
Very nice outdoor pool, and they have an excellent picnic area. Inside pool was popular with young families (we didn't use this). The area near the inside pool was very hot — hotter than outside. There was a lot of noise in connection with the inside pool, but after it closed (I think at about 11 PM), they turned off the waterfall, and the noise became tolerable. The staff was very kind and helpful. This is an older property that reminds me of the old Holidomes. The lobby is very nice, and the inside pool area is interesting (probably expensive to have built). The rooms have been maintained, and they aren't bad at all. There are a few places where the property shows its age. The thing I disliked the most was that there seemed to be a lot of people sitting outside their rooms on the 2nd story facing the outside pool at nearly all times of the day and night. This seemed to be the clientele rather than the hotel itself. Not sure what was up with this, and whether it is a constant thing or only associated with a group that happened to be at the hotel at the same time. Would I stay here on my next visit to Gatlinburg? It wouldn't be my first choice, but it is certainly an acceptable choice.

It's alright for cost
The hotel was off the main strip and you had to walk a few blocks which wasn't horrible. Shopping and food was close enough. The hotel is undergoing a minor face-lift. They updated our room with carpet, paint on the walls, linens and TV Stand. They left dirty, stained furniture, didn't replace the pillows, the ceiling was left unpainted so you can see how dirty the wall and ceiling really were before the new paint covered up the old...the adjoining edge of the ceiling to wall was full of dust, tub was new but had troubles draining, and there was little water pressure. The beds are hard and uncomfortable. The ac is needed all the time and its so loud when run that you cant hear the tv at max volume. There is a fridge in the unit which is great but they don't have individual microwaves in the rooms even though their new furniture has the space for one. You have to go down to the lobby and use a shared, dirty microwave. The pool is dirty. Not sure how often the water is cleaned but there were a lot of snot blowing kids swimming around when I was in it on 4th of july weekend. There were clumps of hair all around and in the hot tub and mildew everywhere in the pool room. I was grossed out so didn't swim the rest of the days I was there. There is a breakfast buffet there you can pay for and looks good buto wasn't something I did.

Served its Purpose...but...
The Glenstone Lodge offered a safe place for us to rest our heads while vacationing in Gatlinburg. Its redeeming point is location. Just far enough off of the Parkway to not have all the noise, but a very easy walk to everything. The hotel is old and tired. We had poolside room that was very humid and noisy. The door did not sit flush in the frame and the security lock had been redrilled several times. Nothing about the Glenstone Lodge speaks of updated quality beyond the flat screen TV. I am certain, that back in the day, this hotel was nice. But right now, it needs A LOT of TLC to bring it back. Within a minute or two into a shower, you are standing in ankle deep water because the tub didn't drain well at all. However, water pressure is excellent, so that is a plus. But, at 6'2", the shower head was way to low...I had to bend to rinse my hair. Room AC looks to be about 20 years old. Super noisy and did little to remove the humidity from the room. All in all, when we return to Gatlinburg, we'll probably stay elsewhere. There is a new Holiday Inne Suites being built a half a block from the Glenstone.
