The room was clean. The WiFi was very slow. The location is close to the train station and to private night clubs. The personnel was friendly and helpful. And also the breakfast was ok

Reliable, fun, and quirky. Will come back.
Was in Munich for academic research, and needed little more than a room to sleep in, and a tidy breakfast in the morning. Hotel Italia had both. The wifi was actually rather good, and save for a total blackout one evening, was quite speedy (wireless AC!). The hotel is also right near the main train station (the Munich Hauptbahnhof), and the neighborhood is bustling, diverse, and fun. Never once did I feel unsafe. The staff at the hotel are helpful, and tolerant of my imperfect German. The set up of the rooms can be quirky, and the bathroom layouts curious. But the building is part of a stately old city; if one wants uniform perfection one looks for a Holiday Inn in Kansas City, where things are flat and predictable. But Hotel Italia is a welcoming place where you can come back to from your day's outings, get some sleep, and have a reliable, filling breakfast in the morning—with a wait staff that is courteous and dutiful. As I personally advance in years I no longer want the same; I want different. And I'll come back to Hotel Italia the next time I'm in Munich, for sure.

Not OK with StripClubs.
The hotel was OK. The gal at the front desk was less than enthusiastic. I felt like I was keeping her awake. We requested a room in the back of the hotel (3 months in advance) and were told that was not even an option because we had 3 people. Our room faced the street which, by the way, was full of strip clubs. Loud, rowdy people outside, unti about 6am. Getting an early start on the day meant stepping over puke on the ground. Too bad the location is so ghetto, the hotel itself was OK. Breakfast was pretty good. We left after 2 of the 5 nights that we booked. Went to a much better neighborhood.

Affordable Hotel
We stayed for 2 nights during our time in Munich. The location was perfect for public transportation from the airport (with luggage in tow), getting around the city, catching our day tour across from the Munich HBF and then taking the train to leave Germany. The room we had faced the street so it was a bit loud at night and other hotel guests coming in late we could definitely hear them. If you're a light sleeper, this might not be ideal but it was great for us because of it's convenience and decent hotel conditions. Breakfast was surprisingly good, with a good selection of things to eat. Would definitely stay there again!

Area not so great...
I was traveling with two friends around Europe when I stayed at Hotel Italia. The hotel staff was very welcoming and friendly. They were very accommodating. Our room and bathroom was small but it was fine for the kind of trip we were on (girls trip, backpacking). Our room did not have air conditioning, therefore we kept the windows open and it was a nice temperature in our room. The issue I had with the hotel was that our room faced the street and because we had to keep our windows open, we could hear EVERYTHING happening on the street (we were on the 6th floor) and it kept us up all night. This hotel is surrounded by strip clubs and we could hear the people outside all night long. The hotel itself was fine but the area around it wouldn't be acceptable for families with children...
