Checked in and out in the same day
This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had in my life. We checked in the hotel around 3pm in the afternoon. Upon arrival we waited to be taken to our room where I was underwhelmed based on the pics posted for the style room I had. I went to the beach restaurant with my fiancé for lunch. The food was ok, the drinks were terrible (3 drinks were sent back with us eventually ordering water). There were squirrels hoping on and off empty tables and running up and down post in the restaurant. It was unpleasant to say the least and I question the sanitation of the eating tables as I didn't see any staff wiping down the tables after squirrels jumped all around it. Decided to take a nap after lunch as it was raining so not much to do. We woke up from our nap and were covered in bugs all over the bed, floor, bathroom, everywhere! It was Awful! There was no mention by the hotel staff upon arrival of the possibility of an increase in bugs and there was no mention to ensure the net in the windows and the curtains are closed, only to lock the door and windows for monkey. We called the front desk and asked for someone to come, a worker came with bug spray and and broom. She took off the sheets that had been sprayed with bug spray when we first got up, shook them out and remade the bed with the same sheets. We backed our bags and checked out. Not flying hours to stay in a bug infested place

Loved the sense of isolation in the jungle setting
Has to be one of my very favourite holidays spots - Pro's: Loved the sense of isolation, felt like a private cabin in the rain forest, with superb sea view. Room had a lovely deck to sit out on. Animal life was a bonus with monkeys, flying lamurs, monitor lizards, eagles and more. We were around 1km from the beach/pool/restaurant/reception and serviced by regular shuttle service. Actually enjoyed the walk most times as we almost always saw something of interest. The beach is perfect, kid friendly as it does not go deep suddenly and plenty of deck chairs - very peaceful. Protected by netting. Cons: Swimming pool is OK but got very noisy with kids, if that is a problem, go to the beach :) . You also have to keep your doors and windows closed, first morning we woke to a monkey in the room stealing a cherry from the welcome cake! I left it open a crack. Things to do, the beach has paddle boarding, kayaks, catamaran, para gliding, jet ski's etc. All reasonable prices. We walked to the Cable car, probably 1.5km from reception - that was great, just slip down to the beach area before going and you can see if cloud is sitting on top and spoiling the view. We noted at around 4pm that it was clear and headed up and it was a great time of day. At the base of the cable car, there are a bunch of markets stalls and some modest eating places as an alternative to the hotel. The other fun activity is the for RM70 we hired a scooter for the day and did a circuit of the island with many stops.

Lovely four-night stay
We recently enjoyed a four night stay at The Berjaya Langkawi Resort which exceeded our expectations, so much so that we extended our stay. Although we booked a rainforest view, our chalet had sea glimpses so we could enjoy a quiet moment on the balcony, watching the monkeys playing in the trees with the sea in the distance. The chalet itself was spacious and well fitted out with a nice bathroom, however my partner & I both found the bed too hard. The pool area was gorgeous and we spent much of our time floating in the pool interspersed with the odd drink at the swim up bar. The beach was clean with proper fixed structures for shade which is great in the heat of the day, and there are activities every day from walks to windsurfing to keep everyone entertained. We enjoyed the wide range of foods on offer at the buffet breakfast twice, and we also popped to Telaga Harbour for breakfast and dinner as it's so close by. The evening meal we ate as a family at Pahn Thai was fantastic - you can sit over the water watching the sunset with cocktails in hand - bliss. The staff were all lovely, especially the friendly ladies at reception who were amenable to our date change. We played ping pong in the sports bar & even took a pedalo out for a spin, so we felt we really experienced the resort in full.

Very Good 8.0
Hotel is old but classy. Good food & services
Berjaya has excellent accessibility to the Skycab & Oriental Village with free shuttle provided.15 mins to airport & taxi within RM12 to Telaga Harbour, Waterfall, horse-riding attractions. Can easily rent a car to drive out n leave car within resort carpark for return. Stayed in the forest suite first 3 nights for the size and needed a rollaway bed. Looks worn out, smell murky, ants in the room, mouldy non slip mat for the bathtub and balcony seat with lizard droppings. The super king size mattress wasn't the most comfortable. We were put up at the chalet at far end of the track, with all vehicles making U-turns. No views and it's the raw forest facing front door and chalets n road from balcony. Return trip from Koh Lipe we had planned to stay just one night and took a cheaper option to book the forest chalet and requested a unit nearer to lobby- it turned out more pleasant! comfortable room size and toilet, Grohe shower head and looks more well maintained. The staff here are excellent! Reception staff are always polite n make eye contacts knowing u are queuing up. They are very accommodating and sincere to help. We had four dinners at the Oriental Pearl chinese restaurant-service never failed & food were excellent. My children love dining there! Breakfast is international selection and nothing to complain abt. Even poolside restaurant staff are very helpful! Expect to wait quite a while for buggy services as staff at counter work non-stop. We love to come back again!

Fair 4.0
A huge disappointment.
A huge disappointment. The hotel is marked as a 5 star but is barely at the level of a 3 star. For swedes, the overall does not live up to the quality you would get at a Scandic. Since we are are 4 in the family, we had 2 bungalows in the jungle (4 beds). The bungalows are about 10-15 minutes walking distance to the lobby, pool and beach area. The hotel proposes a shuttle service. Even if 10-15 minutes is not much, the walk could turn into an adventure if you meet monkeys on you way. The grey monkeys are aggressive and attack. Unfortunately, they attack the smallest in the group, i.e. the kids. So shuttles became a necessity. But you wait in average 15-20 minutes outside of your room for it. We had once to wait 50 minutes. We mentioned this to the reception who, without apologising, just said that it happens sometimes. House keeping is of poor quality, On 2 occasions, they took our towels but did not leave fresh ones. So we had 0 towels. We called the lobby to get fresh ones which were delivered 1 hour later. We called 3 times to ask where they were but they were each time on their way. Of course, no apologies. I asked for the manager to call us back. But of course, no one called. The restaurants are very good and we highly recommend them. In summary, the hotel gets at most a 2 out of 5. The restaurants get a 4 (5 would be michelin level).
