It will get better.
Put the in laws there for the weekend as we live down the street. For the most part the property is run down amd dated. Aramark took over a few years ago and is doing a great job so far. It is what it is!

Made a good choice to stay here.
Very close to the beach. The cabin gives a sense of being inside a big national park. Saw couple deers wandering outside the cabin in the morning. Consider the hotel price in Monterey peninsular, this one is a good choice. Will stay here again.

Beautiful Grounds - Rooms Not So Good
The upside to this hotel is the grounds. It is in a beautiful location, right next to the beach. We had a blast renting bikes and biking to Cannery Row in Monterrey. It is far less crowded than neighboring cities which made the trip more enjoyable. The lobby is great with a roaring fire, pool tables and a place to get wine or coffee. There is a nice seating area outside the hotel where you can watch the water. The downside to the hotel is the rooms. The rooms are more cabin-like rather than a hotel. Very outdated décor, dilapidating and dirty furniture, run down bathrooms, old carpeting and drapes which lend an old musty smell to the rooms. Windows broken/don't open. The walls are extremely thin. You can hear every word of rooms next to you and the rooms above are incredibly noisy. Lobbies in each building were run down....stained carpets, chairs, sofas, etc. We switched to an "ocean view" room for our 2nd night here. You could see a little glimpse of the ocean from our room. It is worth the upgrade though as the ocean breeze helps mask the smell of the rooms more than the first floor rooms. If I were to go back to the area, I would rather tent camp than stay at this hotel.

Amazing location! Very simple rooms in original YWCA cabin, clean and comfortable. Historic arts and crafts architecture blended in a beautiful natural setting.

Definitely stay here again
We would easily stay here again. The accommodations were more like a campground cabin, but having beds for all in our large family was a worthwhile tradeoff. The beach and dune access completely sold us though. Being able to stay so close to an accessible beach was awesome and the vibe of the place with firepits, games, and smores in the evening, really made this a great stay.
