Asilomar Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove
I was very dissapointed in the room I was able to book through, I was told the third parties only got certain rooms, we received a room with 2 twins as expected in the "historic" section, could not have fit another twin between the two twins, very small space, windows to the road, could barely get our 2 suitcases into the room. A dissapointing 65th Bday this was. The conference grounds has many much better rooms available, you must apparently book directly with Asilomar, this was my 8th stay at Asilomar and in the past my rooms have been much better (it's not a fancy place which is ok) but this closet we got for a high price was unacceptable. The check in desk had nothing to suggest and were rather "short" with a "too bad" attitude. The beds were soft, very stiff back each morning. Would not recommend the room. The grounds and location, across from the ocean, are what you would go there for.

The place was not what I expected. Very minimal amenities if you want to stay in your room. WiFi was week and no TVs in the room. Nice people work there and the grounds are pretty. The beds were a bit rough. Woke up with some back issues. Probably won’t go back there.

Don't Stay Here Unless Super Rustic is your Style
Just the very basic. For the money we paid I expected at least a parking spot near our building. Nope had to park at the building next door most of the weekend. Bed very uncomfortable. No TV. Old and not keep up.

Would stay here again
We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were reasonably clean. The beds were comfy. It was reasonably quiet. We are handicapped and were able to park very close to our room and it was accessible to a mobility scooter. There was some deferred maintenance. It looked as though in the bathroom they had caulked over mildew but missed several places. The tub drain did not fully stop so it was impossible to take a bath. And the pathway to our room had some boards that were loose that caused us to stumble and nearly fall a few times. The grounds are very nice although very dry at this time of year the fall. We saw some deer on the property and that was great. We did not go swimming but we walked by the pool and tested the water and it was heated and seemed very nice. It looked as though towels are provided at the pool area for anyone who wants to use them. We took a short walk on the boardwalk that goes to the beach. It is very pretty there and the boardwalks are handicap accessible. Apparently they offer meals here n the dining room but we checked the prices and they seemed unusually high. We decided to eat in restaurants nearby and found that their prices were about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the resort prices. However they also have a cafe on site which seemed to have better pricing. It only offers the basics like coffe, water, sandwiches and fruit cups Etc. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the main hall has a grand piano two billiard tables and various board games.

Not a luxury resort
Staying at Asilomar is very comfortable yet feels somewhat like going to camp. The grounds are natural rather than landscaped and currently look dry and battered. There is the huge common area with the fireplace and pool tables. We enjoyed our stay, the quiet, the nearby beach, the birds.
