French Horn Hotel, Reading
Wonderful short break
A great place for short retreat combined with a bit of a treat. Welcome and service during the stay could not have been warmer, but always discrete. Lovely public areas with roaring fires, superb meals and a bolt hole from frozen weather.

Loved it.
The cottage I stayed in was roomy and lovely. The service was wonderful and the food at the restaurant was superb. I would definitely stay there again.

Lovely Hotel but needs updating slightly
Lovely hotel, very characterful. Friendly helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. I didn't eat in the restaurant at night because (although it sounded fantastic) it was too expensive on the work budget. I'd definitely revisit again for a personal holiday visit, it would be a great place to stay for the weekend.

Badly needs refurbishing
Our stay at The French Horn was not yo the standard we were expecting. We stayed in room 22 for two nights visiting out daughter at Reading University. The room was very warm on the first night and hardly any heating on second night/ . We did inform the staff and nothing was done about it. The bedroom was very dated the curtains were badly frayed at the edges, lots of stains on the carpet, the furniture were covered with dents and scratches. The room is desperately ready for a coat of paint. It is such a shame because the hotel is in a lovely spot overlooking beautiful well kept gardens. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before and it was cooked in a little kitchen on the corridor on the first floor. This was a bit off putting the girls there were tallking away with guest having full view of this tatty looking kitchen. The sausages were nicely cooked and very meaty the bacon had been done in advance and it was completely dry. My porridge on our first morning was fine on second morning I could not eat it it was so runny and there was milk or cream floating on top. We did have lunch at the hotel and we enjoyed it although we could see that the service was not flowing smoothly. We would recommend eating at the hotel. The place is badly in need of refurbishment. Its such a shame because its a lovely building in a prime position on the river Thames.
