Our dog loved it!
Rustic and beautiful setting. We had a very simple one bedroom with bath. Easy access north or south along the park. Walls are paper thin so bring earplugs if you have trouble sleeping. Dog friendly. We brought her everywhere. He viewpoint just up the rocks from the parking lot was beautiful for views. 3 nights total. Next time we will get a larger room with couch and fireplace. We will be back!

Most disgusting place ever! (Except for the settin
I am a budget traveller, a camper and an outdoorsperson. I have never before left a bad review of a hotel. But there's a first time for everything--this place was disgusting! The setting is awesome. The outside shabby, but ok. The inside--ugh! We walked in--it smelled. At least 10 flies were buzzing around the room. There was mud--yes MUD-- in the tub. Garbage on the floor. The floor in the bathroom was so rotted out that it felt like you were walking on a thin layer of foam--I expected to fall through to what--mold?--with each step. We complained and asked to be moved. No dice, but they said they would clean the room again. We came back--the mud was gone, some (but not nearly all) of the flies were gone, the garbage was still on the floor. Stay at Skyline Lodge a few miles down the road. Oddly, same management company, but much nicer.

Moderatly rustic, highly recommended get-away
Big Meadows Lodge is a unique national park lodge. It isn't new and travelers shouldn't expect a high-end luxury accomodation. However, we go there often for it's lodge atmosphere. beautiful great room with stone fireplace, majestic views of the Shenandoah Valley, and unique hiking and other outdoor opportunities right outside the door. Most rooms have outside chairs and views. Nightly folk music in the "tap room" and nice variety menu in the restaurant. Comfortable, moderately "rustic" choice. Cell phone and internet coverage is spotty; not a business trip location.

Fall getaway
Beautiful surroundings, I can understand the buildings being dated but it sure would be nice if they spent a couple bucks to replace the broken shower head. The resturant always has great food and service.
