A magical weekend
We didn’t know of Oakley Court's fascinating history and place in the world of cinema so that was a real plus. Something they should make more of we felt. The moment you arrive you cannot fail to be full of anticipation, so grand and magical is the exterior. We were staying in the not yet refurbished east wing so our room felt a little tired and old fashioned but extremely comfortable. The large section that had been redecorated felt glamorous but also cosy. We enjoyed the superbly atmospheric and extremely well stocked library, the magical conservatory full of paintings and intimate dining area with very lovely works of art. Most of the hotel was not just dog friendly but very welcoming to dogs and the staff were uniformly excellent. The gym was of a very high standard as was the pool, sauna and steam room all fully functioning yet COVID safe. Our last morning we went to the riverside bar and enjoyed a hot chocolate in an extremely festive setting with decorations and space heaters. All in all a fabulous stay and we look forward to returning when it is fully revamped.
