Home away from home for Highclere Tour
Helpful staff, especially woman that did some laundry for us. Beautiful room/suite with bedroom and sitting room. Great breakfast in on-site restaurant, "The Barn". Relaxing and memorable, as was our tour of Highclere Castle, which is nearby.

On the way to the airport
We arranged to stay here to be close to Heathrow for the following day and to see Highclere Castle (it was closed) but glad we stayed here. Jonathon the proprietor was very helpful and informative, he has made tons if upgrades and continues the expansion, obviously will make this historic roadhouse even nicer. They have done a great job with the restaurant (breakfast and dinner were very British and very good, as well as a good value). We enjoyed our stay.

The worst customer service I've ever had.
My stay at the hair and hounds was simply terrible. As a guy who stays in hotels regularly through work I feel like I have a good grasp on what is right and wrong, as well as realistic expectations. I went into the restaurant on Friday evening at 8:55pm, I was told to take a seat at the bar and wait to be seated, so I did just that. At 9:30 I asked the manager what was going on, he then made it clear I had just been forgotten about. To add insult to injury they had stopped servicing food at 9:30 too. I was gobsmacked. The manager had the poorest attitude possible to my problem, I told him I had been up since 5am and I was just wanting to relax and some food and his response was "ahhh sorry." And that was it. Absolutely pitiful. The room I stayed in was dated and every time anybody moves around in their room you feel as though they're in your own room - not to mention the fact the ceilings make it impossible to properly use the bathroom features. (I.e toilet, shower). If you're ever in Newbury looking for a hotel/food - look elsewhere.

Good hotel - will be visiting again.
This hotel is in a good location. I would recommend having one of the rooms inside the hotel as the ones outside can be quite noisy with the road and a little cold. The breakfast offered was excellent. I didn't eat in the restaurant in the evening but wished I did. I am booked to visit again so will be trying the evening menu.
