Don't Let The Per Night Rate Fool You
We frequently visit the Big Island for vacation and this was the first time staying at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. Can't say I'd do it again though. The nightly rate was slightly under where we normally stay, but they gouge you for everything else. Self parking? $27 a night, even for hotel guests. Breakfast? How about $68+ tip for two people, at a flipping buffet! Oh, and plan on a 7-10 minute hike to and from your room, unless you take their tram to the room-buildings, which is so slow, I literally walked faster than the tram would have gotten me there. Another surprise, it they charged my credit card $525 for incidentals..but that's when checking in! Another thing to consider; this hotel is not convenient to Downtown Kailua, so expect a 30 mile drive. My advise? Spend the $10 a night extra to stay at the Sheraton or Marriott, rather than ultimately $500+ to stay at the Hilton.

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful hotel. My only complaints are that everything is so spread out and takes time to get to, and the food is way overpriced for the quality at the various restaurants we went to. The pools and lagoon were great and I loved the view from my room.

Spring Break at the Waikoloa Hilton
The Waikoloa Hilton was a beautiful hotel. The kids really enjoyed the tram rides and boat rides, although they were not always available when we wanted to leave or go back to the room. The walk was still nice and not that bad. The pools were wonderful. There were a variety of things to do for the different ages of children we were traveling with. A couple of turn-offs about going to pool: 1) When asking for towels at the lagoon, they weren't folded or rolled nicely in nice hotels. They were handed in a big ball of mess. 2) There were not many towel machines, so we needed to walk far to get towels at the other pools. In the evening my son and husband wanted to play pool. They asked me to leave my ID in exchange for the equipment. However, when returning the equipment, they didn't return my ID (and I forgot since it was late). I remembered my ID on the way to the airport the next day. We needed to turn around and go back to the hotel to get it. My ID was kept in security. It took 15 minutes for my ID to reach me. I asked security why no one tried contacting me at my room to let me know my ID was left at the bar. Security's response was, "I don't know." Okay, no apology and no service to try and get my ID back to me. I know that I forgot to ask for my ID back, but the employee should be in routine to return it when returning the table pool equipment. It was also a problem getting the table pool equipment as the bartender kind of said he was in charge, then passed on the job.

Poor quality and ridiculously expensive
We stayed at the Ocean tower. The rooms were old and murky. After spending a whopping amount on the rooms the room quality was nowhere near to other places we stayed. There was additional $27+ for each day for parking plus $30 resort fee. The restaurants inside are ridiculously expensive and they charge so much for delivering food in addition to the service fee. The only good thing about the resort is the pools, the lagoon and the boat and tram service. The hotel is not on a beach side. Overall I wasn't happy with the stay for the money we spent. I won't be going here again.

Resort type hotel like Disneyland
The Hilton Waikoloa Resort is a nice resort. Just know what you're getting into. It's very large. Train and boat ferries to get you around the property and between the different buildings. Long lines for brunch. Don't arrive too late or there won't be frequent trains to shuttle you to your room. Nice service and staff. Just think of Disneyland and the families and crowds.
