Run of the mill - decent for what you pay
This hotel is a decent "run of the mill" all inclusive. Let me provide some pointers for ppl that I would love to see on other reviewers as it helps with booking decisions when deciding to reserve. The Good: - hotel very open and clean - rooms are nice and spacious - hotel is big enough which is nice but extremely large that you need to walk for long periods of time or take a trolly to get anywhere - buffet is very good overall - late night pizza parlour - beach is very nice and comfortable - pool area is very nice Bad: - service after check-in is abismal. Waiters and bartenders are not very friendly or helpful at all. There are exceptions but unfortunately, not the rule. - alcohol quality: terrible. Unless you upgrade to their signature rooms, the booze is beyond basic. What I mean by this is that it's no name alcohol, not even basic brand name "local" alcohol, rather it's basic flavored booze. - bars and areas close early if they run out of stuff or if they kinda feel like it - the themed restaurants that require reservations are TERRIBLE! One of the few times I'll tell you that going to the buffet is a better option. - rooms not super sound proof so if you are close to the elevator, you hear it all night (I don't usually complain about this cause I sleep like a log but I would get woken up a few times a night cause of this. Hope this helps.

Bad experience
In general service was bad. I noticed lack of enough employees for the demand. Only one buffett for breakfast/dinner with long waiting lines. There were too few beach chairs at pools and beach. This was our tenth time in Punta Cana and the worst experience. In general I summarize it as lack of enough resources for the amount of hosts. Employees don’t seem to be happy. Room was adequate.

The check-in process was terrible. The agent said i hadn't paid and was ready to swipe my card without confirming first. Had i not have had the print out showing my reservation was paid i would've been out of over $1100. The food is lacking. The restaurants with the exception of the mexican restaurant is terrible.its the same food everyday. Very little variation.

This property is catered to second and third language people. All the music movies is second language. I understand it’s the cultural however it’s a tourist place. Thank God my husband brung his lil speaker to Bluetooth music. The food is ok it’s their culture food. In the Steak house we experienced a mouse ran across the restaurant and our table. Spoiled our complete night and the rest of our stay.

This was my first stay at Occidental. Overall the hotel isnt terrible, could do better with cleaning the rooms and food and drinks weren't good. But i had a very frustrating experience. The wifi was down for almost 2 days and i needed to be able to communicate friends in other resorts to coordinate plans. I ended up having to pay 50 dollars for my phone to have data. I asked them to refund this amount to me since they are supposed to provide wifi, and they said there's nothing they can do. That is not a way to treat your valued customers. I do not recommend this hotel and I will not return for this reason.
