Short stay in Barcelona
A really smart Hotel, very clean & modern. Staff were very helpful, we had a welcome glass of Cava as we arrived & a small sweet treat when beds turned down at night. Location was excellent too, right in the heart of Barcelona yet not right in the middle of La Ramblas so it was noisy and only a 10min stroll to the beach, plenty of Bars & Restaurants close by. We paid extra for Breakfast, which was excellent too - good choice of food and all fresh & tasty. There was a Spa but we didn't visit so I can't comment, but Hotel also has lovely rooftop bar & pool, which was great place to relax after day around the city. We stayed on the 1st floor overloooking rear courtyard (and kids play area) which was probably the only thing I'd change if stayed again, it could be a little noisy at times. We only had basic room, so presume the better (higher priced) rooms would naturally be on higher floors. Price wise it wasn't cheap, either to stay or eat/drink etc. but at the end of the day it's a 5star Hotel in the middle of Barcelona so you get what you pay for - if I go back to Barcelona, I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.

Walkable to good restaurants, beach and shops
Included breakfast is very nice with many choices and great coffee service. The rooftop pool and bar provides a quiet respite and great view. We thought it would be overly crowded, but we always found a shady seat. The service is good and the food and drink options are great. The rooms are typically small but clean and well-appointed. We didn't love the bathroom separation of only a curtain and sliding door-very little privacy. The staff is friendly and always ready with a cup of coffee or bottle of water. Check-in is 2:00pm, but our rooms weren't ready until 3:30pm and 4:30pm. This was very unsatisfactory as we had come overnight from the states and had almost no sleep on the plane. It was hot and we were exhausted, so we went to the rooftop and dozed for hours until our rooms were ready. I'm wondering if it's because we got a deeply discounted rate through The walls are thin and we heard water running through the pipes late into the night, and the Barcelona Cathedral bells rings every 15 minutes 24 hours a day. I downloaded a white noise app to be able to sleep. The beds are comfortable--pillows could be better. The temperature control in the rooms is very good. The concierge service was adequate but not 5 star--mainly gave advice but there was no hands-on arrangement of activities, and no good direction on the best place to exchange money. Location is great--walkable to many good restaurants, shops and the beach. We rarely used taxis.

Very Good 8.0
Our taxi pulled up along side of the property and the doorman greeted us and took our baggage. The staff was very friendly and offered us something to drink as we checked into our room. Our room was ready even though we arrived a little early which was a plus. We went up to our room and a few moments later the kind gentlemen who greeted us at the door arrived with our luggage. He also took the time to show us all the features in the room which was very nice. There is a free mini bar included in your say that is filled daily with water, soda, juice, and beer. Housekeeping was amazing and cleaned our room 2x a day( in the morning and before bed time)They left us a very nice welcome note and 2 macaroons on the first night. The other nights they left us pieces of Godiva chocolate. Room was always clean.. Housekeeping there was great! The rooftop pool offers an amazing view of the city. A few little cons - the rooftop pool water was very cold. I would think for a 5 star hotel that the pool should be heated. - Not enough lounge chairs on the roof top for the number of guests - One of the chairs my husband sat in was ready to break and the fabric was detaching from the springs. Maybe time for some new chairs? - The waiter on the rooftop serving the pool guests did not ask us if we wanted any drinks or anything on the menu and we were there for nearly 2 hours. - $95 for use of your private car to drive 8 miles is a little high.

Nice Facility but Noisy and Inflexible
Although this hotel is highly rated, for me it was average because of the location of my room and a request to extend my check-out an hour or two longer that was refused. My room was quite nice and the welcome by the staff upon arrival was super-friendly and helpful. The facilities are lovely. However, if you are at all sensitive to noise while sleeping, DO NOT request a city view room. These overlook one of the busiest streets in the city and the hotel happens to be located near a stop light resulting in not only street noise but hearing cars, trucks, motorcycles, buses starting and stopping constantly. About the request for a later check-out (by an hour or two): My plane was delayed by 13 hours, so I could have used the extra time in my room to get myself better organized in private for the ordeal ahead. I was told by reception that the hotel was fully booked that night so they could not honor my request. While I understand that I could not keep the room all afternoon, I did not understand why there was not some flexibility to keep the room an extra hour or two extra, especially since it is not possible for the hotel to arrange to clean all rooms all at once at the noon check out time. Unfortunately, between not sleeping due to noise and the lack of flexibility at check-out, especially from a 5 star hotel that supposedly prides itself on service, I am left with a negative feeling so it is unlikely that I would stay there again. Hence my rating of average overall.

Wonderful Hotel with Great Service and Location!
We had the pleasure of staying at Grand Hotel Central on our first trip to Barcelona. From the moment we got there, the staff (Luisa, Mauro, Marta) were absolutely fabulous - warm, welcoming, helpful, and professional. Even though we arrived earlier than the usual check-in time, they had rooms available for us. This hotel is family-owned as it was originally one of the homes of the owner's family. It is absolutely lovely and beautifully decorated. We like supporting family-owned businesses, so this really caught our attention. If you get a chance, peer into the Library - it is fabulous! When we got up to our room, we couldn't believe the view looking across Via Laietana and over to the Gothic Cathedral area! Absolutely fabulous! The room was beautifully decorated and well laid-out. One of the things we loved most about the room was the automatic shades that you can roll down at night. It is DARK in there - perfect for getting good sleep! We had wonderful turn-down service each night. The mini-bar was complimentary. There was a Nespresso machine as well as a hot water pitcher in the room with a selection of coffee and teas. There were plenty of outlets in the room, complimentary WiFi, and the hair dresser in the bathroom was really good (a nice surprise indeed).Grand Hotel Central is in a great location very close to the Gothic District. We loved this hotel and will be back on our next trip to Barcelona!
