City Hotel Matyas, Budapest
The hotel had NO elevators. The room was at the end of the winding and multilevel hallway. Breakfast room was dark and depressing.

The room was actually a part of the building basement. Very basic. No toiletries, dark small room, no room service, just towel change. 2 stars. Though the staff was very friendly.

I have stayed in Budapest several times. This was the best all around for location, price etc. I would definitely stay again.

Will return to Budapest but not hotel
The hotel is in a great location - right next to a bridge between Buda and Pest, close to the subway and multiple bus lines, good variety of restaurants, bars and shops. The hotel itself is a little iffy. The room and bathroom were clean and the beds were comfortable but getting from the lobby/reception area to our (European second floor, American third floor) room off the open courtyard meant passing several areas where day or night, people were standing/sitting around smoking. The hotel is in a huge building that also contains private apartments and it was hard to tell when we were in the hotel and when we were in the shared hote/apartment area but, regardless, passing through the smokers was unpleasant. Also, dpending on the the amount of wind, cigarette smoke came into our room from the courtyard. The evening shift desk clerk (an older guy) was not friendly; the young woman in the morning was. The breakfast buffet is not worth it.
