Good Historical Hotel in SMA
Overall Belmond Casa Sierra Nevada is an excellent place to stay. The staff are very welcoming and their attention to detail is extraordinary. The room my fiancée and I stayed in was very clean and well maintained. This location is spread out over a city block and the office and hotel restaurant are convenient depending on the building your room is located. The decor of the hotel could be updated but that’s a personal opinion. Since it is located in the historic colonial district of San Miguel de Allende, it would not make sense to have ultra modern decor like one might find in Los Angeles. Since the hotel was spread out, when we checked out, my fiancée and I needed to walk about a block on cobblestone street. This was not ideal. The room we had was smaller than usual for a Belmont hotel. Also, we ran out of hot water relatively fast. The heater in our room was noisy and cycled on and off every 2 - 3 minutes. Since it was cold that night, we really had no choice but to use it. The check out process was very smooth and trouble free. Again, this is due to the staff who are excellent. We did not eat in the restaurant so I cannot comment on it. It has very good ratings from others. The restaurant offers cooking classes every day of the week. My fiancée and I will sign up for this in the future when we return to SMA. You need to book at least 6 weeks ahead for weekend classes.

The location of the hotel is wonderful, right in the middle of the center of San Miguel, which is just a lovely city to visit. The rooms were spacious and clean. Soundproofing from the courtyard and the street could have been better, but really wasn't a problem. The concierge and the staff are all lovely and clearly well meaning. The one consistent problem with the hotel...the service is pretty awful. The rooms come with coffee/tea service in the morning, which is great, if it comes. Attempts with ordering such service the night before, or even in the morning, were met with lovely responses..."Absolutely..will be there at the time requested". It never was. We had to keep calling, and then finally when the service did arrive, usually a half an hour to an hour later than they said to expect it, what they brought, each time, was not what we had ordered. So beware that part. Otherwise it was a lovely place, kind people, who just need to get their service act together.

Gem of San Miguel De Allende-Casa de Sierra Nevada
The hotel restaurant, service, staff all 5 starts. Super clean rooms with all the amenities. Spanish architecture creates a elegant ambiance, and the terraces expand the room to outdoor living. The downtown is within few minutes walk. comfortable shoes are a must on the cobblestone roads. The street life is animated till late night, the city is safe. there are a lot of points of interest starting with Atotonilco Sanctuary, an UNESCO site, and ending with Canada de la Virgen-a local pyramid build by Otomi people (probably descendant of Aztec people) in 1050AD The only negative is the public tower clock with chimes every 15 minutes, annoying for a light sleeper :)
