The Yorkshire Hotel, Harrogate

Great hotel very central to Harrogate Shopping Center

When we checked in, we were greeted by a very helpful man on reception who was very friendly and polite. Unfortunately when we got to our room there was an awful over powering smell of drains/sewerage. I went back down to reception to explain the situation and suggested we might like to be moved if the issue cannot be resolved. I was abruptly told by a lady on reception that it would not be possible to move as they were fully booked. I was told in quite a condescending tone and I did not feel reassured my complaint would be dealt with. The room was quite dark and dinghy and very small. Not what I expected and the room did not reflect the price paid. There were no towels in the room, we had to ask for them at reception. Because of the smell and small room we could not spend any time in our room or relax and instead went straight out. Fortunately they managed to fix the cause of the smell by the time we returned in the evening. Having said this, for the duration of our evening we were not sure if the issue could be fixed and knowing there no over rooms available we were concerned about what would happen when we returned later that night, which kind of ruined our evening. Shower was not powerful, cups in the room were dirty, en-suite tiny. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Check in was quick and efficient. The room was small and basic, although clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast choices were disappointingly limited. The hotel was in a great location in central Harrogate but not noisy.
