Hotel The Exchange, Amsterdam
Not Very Comfy
Good location and clean and good service. But the bedroom was too small with the bed taking up most of it, and just had one tiny table and a stool and a little rack to hang clothes. It was too warm and there was no air conditioning and the bed was way too soft. We could open the window but the fan provided could not reach the windowsill without sitting in an awkward angle to blow cooler air into the room. The duvet was too warm so we took it apart and use the duvet cover only.

very strange experience
my hope to experience old Amsterdam was perhaps too much. old building, narrow hallways and elevator, strange interiors. mix of the old and the quirky and artsy was too much for me.

This room was considerably larger than the one last week making it much more comfortable. If there are outlets in the room for other than 220V, they are invisible to me.

Only good thing is the location
The best part about this hotel is its location. It is located at the heart of Amsterdam and is within walking distance to a lot of attractions. The actual hotel and rooms were quite small which is expected given the location and the age of the buildings in the area. The room was quite bare and the bathroom did not have a properly separated shower area so the entire bathroom gets wet after a shower. The receptionists are not very attentive and did not provide good customer service (as least by US standards/expectations). There were numerous time where we were at the front desk trying to get their attention but we were ignored as they continued chatting or looking at the computer. Although we've encounter this in other places in Amsterdam so it might be a cultural difference. We also had trouble with the internet which stopped working after the first day. Even after notifying the hotel, we did not see them addressing this issue. Whenever we would inquire about it they simply stated it wasn't working rather than trying to quickly fix it. As tourists, this was very frustrating since we wanted to be able to lookup info about the surrounding area and make plans.

The rooms are too small for anyone with more than a small carry on piece of luggage. There are no amenities, like outlets to charge your phone or computer. Manipulating luggage on/off the elevator, or around the floors, not to mention in the rooms, is a major hassle.
