Fabulous 8.8 From 376 reviews

Very Good 8.0
We have always loved Frattina however this time there was restoration work going on below which was noisy and the area for breakfast was being renovated so we had to eat in our room which was not comfortable. I look forward to things being back in order when we stay there again.

Photos not current. Very old old accommodations.
Very uncomfortable stay. Bathrooms old and smelly. The beds were hard as rocks and we were awakened every day by jackhammers. Miserable stay. Unfortunate. Good location only positive aspect

Not Dreadful
At first, we were very disappointed. Nowhere is it mentioned that this is a third floor walk-up! Secondly, the internet was very weak. Thirdly, there is no drawer space in the room, a closet but no drawers at all. Also, the photos are very misleading. A sumptuous breakfast buffet photo is shown, but it does not exist. Breakfast was brought to our tiny room. The TV had not a single channel in English, not even BBC World, a staple in every OTHER hotel we've ever stayed at in Europe. Great location, and very nice, helpful staff do not add up to "8.8 Fabulous."

Great Hotel with Some Caveats
The hotel and area are very nice and the service is excellent!. There are a couple of things that anyone considering this hotel needs to be aware of, though. There are no elevators. I stayed on the 3rd floor both times I was there and the stairs are not a big deal--easy to climb and generously spaced. For anyone with a health issue, it would be a factor in choosing this hotel, though. The other thing is that there is a very wide disparity in the rooms. The first time I stayed there I was in a beautiful room with a nice bathroom and a great view. The second time, I was shocked when I saw the room they booked for me. It was tiny, overlooking an alley and a garbage collection area, and the bathroom was almost unusable. The shower was not what anyone in America would consider a shower--just a shower head with a water collection area below. It was clean, but rustic to say the least. In fairness, I did express my displeasure, contacted about this, and the concierage moved me to a room the next day that was similar to the room I had on the first trip. They were doing quite a bit of renovation when I was there, so my sense is that they will upgrade the bathrooms soon. So my advice would be to ask for a room with a bathtub--in order to avoid the risk of an unacceptable room. You may have to pay a little more, but it would be well worth it.
