Dated and poor service
I booked here because of good reviews. It did NOT meet expectations at all. The room was super small. The hall felt kinda spooky. The staff was not rude but barely looked up or even stood up when we checked in. Our room was so dated and not cute or charming at all. The internet did not work. While I really like Oak Park, I did not like the The Write Inn.

Location great, everything else awful
No premium channels, poor Wi-Fi, tiny room, not tidy at all, narrow hallways, etc.

Overprice, dingy room in a delapidated property!
Really an awful place in every way and one of the worse places I have ever stayed-- and I travel worldwide constantly. The location IS good because it is walking distance to little downtown Oak Park, but the only reason I can see they are even staying in business is because there are so few options for people to stay right in Oak Park. If you have ANY other choices, GO with them, and NOT this overpriced, dingy place! The ONLY saving grace is the attached restaurant which is FABULOUS, but that is because it is not associated with the hotel in any way but rather, a separate business so you can enjoy that any time. The only thing the Write Inn has going for it is its clever name and apparently, some good marketing. It is close to Hemingway's birth home but OP is so small that everything is easily accessed anywhere you stay.

I didn't expect the Ritz given the prices and age of this hotel, but I do expect to not get eaten alive during my stay and to be treated with some respect as a guest. After two night in this hotel (room 314), my arm was covered in bed bug bites, and more began to appear on my legs throughout my stay. I went to inform the front desk when I realized I was getting bit and what the bites were. I was asked if I had actually seen bed bugs, as if the large bites on my arm weren't proof enough. It was late at night, and we were moved to another room and told to come speak to a manger in the morning. In the morning, I spoke to the same person when I was told since we were moved to an upgraded suite that was all they would be doing for me. The hotel has on site laundry; no offer was extended to wash our belongings, no bags were offered for our things to ensure bugs were not moved to another room. I don't believe the guests in adjoining rooms were warned. I did not personally see any mattresses or the wood bed frame removed from the hotel. Besides this, the rooms were just okay, the lighting is dark, the carpets are old, the beds/pillows/sheets are not the most comfortable. The 'contemporary' elevator wouldn't open the door for me a couple times on my floor. There isn't cable TV, just local antennae. The free wifi hardly works and you constantly have to log back in. Security is lacking as often times I would come back at night and no one would be sitting at the front desk.

A Bit Shabby, But OK
I had a short stay at the Write Inn. My room was larger than I expected, with a kitchenette, seating area, and big bathroom. Everything was clean, but the place felt a bit rundown--chipped tiles in the bathroom, paint in need of touch-ups, etc. I never had housekeeping, and I also never learned whether it was supposed to occur daily--my stay was short enough that I didn't bother following up (although, neither did the clerk who checked me out ask me anything about my stay). Hemingway's Bistro was nice for breakfast, and the CTA green line train's Oak Park stop is only a 6-minute walk. The hotel is also convenient to the Frank Lloyd Wright House and Studio (about a 10-minute walk).
