Mercure Hotel Review
The hotel was perfect but the area was too far from the city center, and the walk to the metro, although relatively short, was through some desolated, uninhabited areas. I wouldn’t have felt safe on my own, at night.

Poor air conditioning
Nice hotel overall. Spa offering also nice but co-ed FYI. Steam room, sauna room, small Turkish bath. Small gym but has everything u need. Lockers/shower and resting area included. Service, Bar and restaurant also nice. Decent food. Cost to town by Uber $10-12 euros. By taxi $30 euros. Uber’s very safe here they are registered unlike in the states. Parking $25 euros My biggest is the lack of air conditioning in the room - and the fact the windows don’t open - made it unbearable to sleep. So unbearably hot we were about to sleep in the hallway, lobby, outside.. but they managed to find us a plug in fan which helped tremendously. Would not return here unless a fan was guaranteed upon arrival. Why does germany hate air conditioning so much? Lol for the cost of this hotel we should be able to rest comfortably.

Lack of customer service
Hotel is 10 minutes walk to the metro station. Some said it’s not far. I would say it’s far and trust me you will agree.if have walked all day and traveled back to hotel then you will feel that’s it’s far. If it’s rain you will agree that the location is inconvenient. There is much better choices of Hotel closer to the station. I regret I booked this Hotel. Upon checked in nobody informed us that they have free taxi service to drop u off at metro station from 8-9. It would be nice to inform your guests that kind of information . Even there is a sign by the door..Everyday as a tourist we were busy looking at the map where to go and how. Don’t let the hotel picture fool you. The room is outdated.

buffet breakfast; near station; friendly staff
The hotel has an upscale appearance inside and outside. In addition to the lobby on the ground floor, there is a small storefront where you can buy food items and souvenirs. There is also a fairly large hotel restaurant. The hotel is close to the canal, so you can catch a canal shuttle boat to Centraal for a few euros. There is a 15 minute walk to the nearest tram station named Overamstel; the hotel offers a free ride to the station but we didn't take advantage of it. We enjoyed the hotel's buffet breakfast which opens 0630 M-F and 0700 on Sat-Sun. There is a wide selection of breakfast items. The room has a sliding panel to the toilet/shower/sink; the bathroom is small but adequate. We found the hotel staff to be welcoming and very helpful and attentive. We took the canal shuttle boat once and it was an enjoyable trip. For grocery items (snacks, water, etc), we shopped at Albert Heijn near the Wibaustraat station. Our room window showed a view of the canal which I recommend if you can get it. Nearby there is another hotel or two. Across a busy road, which we didn't try to cross, there is a gas station. So, there isn't much near the hotel so get accustomed to taking the tram at Overamstel.

Good hotel but, I was expecting more
You can buy food and drinks at any time into the hotel. The decoration of the general area ks very nice. The staff is friendly . You walk around 7 mins to the metro. The hotel doesn't allow payment for 100 and 200 notes. Not cool. We had problems with it. The room is big but is not matching to the decoration of the first floor. One of the offerings of the hotel is the shuttle to the train station (overamstel), it supposed to work from 9 to 11 am (regarding to their marketing). We tried to use it at 930 and they told us they just had one that depart at 9 and just that (disappointed)
