Lovely hotel, Hardest beds award.
The Chambers hotel is a paradox: it's a lovely place. The staff were really, really lovely. The rooms was fine--clean and well appointed (except for some funky looking "slippers" that were sort of shoved beneath the bed. The bathroom was great and the bathroom fixings were also great. Oh, except, Ladies and long-haired men: this is one of those overhead shower heads that you can't escape and the shower cap they provide is *way* too small for people with lots of hair, which made for an interesting duck-and-dodge shower routine. All of that said: The bed was the absolute hardest bed I've ever slept in. Ever! Like a mat put onto of a concrete platform. It was so hard and so ridiculous that I actually laughed out loud because it was so absurd. Then I thought: "meh, maybe on the second night you'll have a different opinion." Nope. Hard. Alas, it will keep me from returning to this particular hotel, which is too bad since I'm in NY at least once a month, often more.

Great location BUT...
This hotel has a fantastic location. However, the rooms need to be updated and the restaurant cleaned and updated as well as the service improved. When I pay what I paid to stay in this hotel, I expect superior quality. I felt like I was in a Day’s Inn. (The bed was very comfortable—my only compliment for this hotel other than location.)

Poor2.0
cramped, condescending and loud
The photos on the site are nothing like this property. Do not go by the bright rooms and clean space. The actual rooms are cramped and dark. The turbine engines outside will make sure your room humms with noise all night long. Expect no rest here. The ceiling has paint coming off and black spots which the staff described as "the unique part of the decor." The manager is at best condescending cordial & will be of no help. You will walk away nauseous with the feeling of patronizing superiority. The poorly trained staff give out vouchers filled with more amendments than the US Constitution. It is all a part of a complete lack of hospitality and care of the customer.

Less-than-ideal bathroom
Overall, I liked the Chambers Hotel. The only thing that was a little off-putting to me was the shower. Specifically, there is not a full-length door on the shower. As such, you end up with a wet bathroom floor after using the shower, which I hate.

Fantastic staff
We had a great experience at Chambers Hotel. Nice contemporary decor and a decent-sized room by New York standards. Excellent location. The best part was the phenomenal staff who always greeted us with a smile and were completely responsive to any requests. They appeared to really enjoy their jobs and to care about their guests. We travel to New York once or twice an year and rarely stay at the same hotel twice, but that’s about to change. We’ll be back to the Chambers Hotel.
