Loved this hotel.

Exceptional 10.0
My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon. All staff we interacted with throughout our stay were friendly and helpful. Our room had a beautiful view of the ocean. Our favorite was swimming in the awesome lagoon full of fish! We also attended the luau, which was very entertaining and had delicious food - would recommend upgrading to VIP!

Great place - speak up if you have issues.
I'll skip comments on the age but Royal Kona has an excellent location and a private lagoon. This makes for a great stay. It has 2 waterfront eateries on site and is within walking distance of other restaurants, some of which are less expensive. The staff is largely happy and friendly and helpful. While I was there they ran out of lotion, conditioner, shampoo etc and we didn't get any for days. We bought some at the ABC store but the hotel never issued any statement on what happened. They really should have let us know since many thought housekeeping wasn't doing their job. Also, there should be some mention somewhere for guests to tip the housekeeping staff. Too many people "forget". If guests have issues they should bring it to the attention of the front desk and even ask for a manager. if the staff cannot help. Overall the staff and management are great, the location is excellent, the amenities on site are very good. For obvious reasons the cube fridge is small and there are no full kitchens.

A nice hotel with impressive ocean views and easy access (walking) to downtown Kona. It does not charge a ‘resort fee’, but parking seemed expensive.

Poor 2.0
Nice location and view but room horrible
The location is very good at Kona downtown, walkable to restaurants and bar and overlooking the ocean. However, the first room that they put us in has cockroaches, after I called to complain, they sent someone with a bug spray to "fix" it. It was not fixed and there were more cockroaches the next morning. The windows are not sound proofed at all, all the conversations that people talked or walked or dragging their luggage was completely audible to us in the room and during the night.
