Midweek break to visit family nearby
Impressive refurbishment of this very large hotel. Entry level rooms are very small, barely room to walk around the beds. But luckily was upgraded to a larger room. Hotel bar is very busy with little seating allocated for residents. Overall a good stay, with few teething troubles.

Underwhelming stay at the Principal
The location is great and the design is gorgeous, however various unpleasant encounters with staff left us knowing we would not be returning to the Principal. The check-in process was well-meaning but overbearing - from the moment we stepped out of the cab, a half dozen men were taking our bags, asking where we were from, touring us around the hotel, escorting us to our room etc. It was just too much after our travels. The room was a Double Room and was incredibly small (we have stayed with the Principal before and were surprised that we were not offered an anniversary/loyalty upgrade). The cleaners left the shower angled upwards so that when we turned it on, ice cold water splashed all over the bathroom and out the door onto the bed. The bar was supposed to stay open until 2am on Saturday, but despite being full of patrons it closed at midnight. On our last day, we left our bags with the concierge. When we returned, we went down the stairs to the toilets. We were followed by an aggressive security guard who accosted us and demanded to know who we were and why we were using the toilets. Although we explained that we were guests of the hotel and were retrieving our bags, it took three concierge staff members to calm him down and convey that we were, indeed, guests of the hotel. A truly bizarre encounter to have in a well reputed hotel.

First class!
The hotel was still going through a 'soft opening' when I stayed, not all restaurants are open yet, nor all of the hotel rooms. Don't let that put you off. Fantastic service. Fantastic rooms. Great bar with amazing cocktails! I was given a tour of the areas that are yet to open and I think the place will give other top London hotels some real competition when it is completed A quick note on the service, it was first class. I was asked if I wanted a bottle of water for my journey as I checked out. You don't get that in many places in London. I will return 100%
