Modern Luxury With a Nod to Hisfory
We've stayed at The Scotsman twice in 12 months and the second time was even better than the first. The rooms are unique and well-designed, and brilliantly echo the building's history as a newspaper headquarters. The Edinburgh views from the upper floors are amazing. The staff is extremely efficient and courteous. We got to the hotel late on a Wednesday after three rainy days on a Highland tour bus, and it was heaven to check into a clean, spacious room, order up some dinner and have a wee dram in front of the BBC. The hotel's location next to Waverley is excellent if you're coming to town by plane or train, and the Royal Mile is just around the corner. The Scotsman is always my first choice when staying in Edinburgh.

Very Good8.0
Hotel was located central to many of the tourist spots. Tasty restaurant attached as well. The hot water stopped working mid way into one of the days during our stay and they provided a free breakfast and complimentary drink at their restaurant for the inconvenience.

Great hotel with uninformed staff
Great old hotel in a great area! Nice stately room with great view and ourcScottish breakfast was so cool! But don’t rely on desk staff for anything as the messed up reservations, missed my wake up call, and didn’t hardly know anything about their own city as I ended up informing them about dinner shows and resturants.

Hotel + Historic = Comfort and Fun and Conveniebnt
We loved The Scotsman, an old hotel in the grand tradition. We were welcomed in the spacious, wood paneled enormous room with good tea, coffee and Scotch! The bathroom was large, nicely appointed and fitted with both shower and tub at opposite ends of the room. The hotel staff were well trained, very pleasant, and helpful. The location was great for us -- next to the train station (but well above it) and down the hill from the castle. The restaurant was undergoing renovation, so I can't comment on that, but there are plenty of eating choices close by.
