8/10 Very good

Cosy cottage
This was a great location in the middle of the Forest of Dean. The cottage was a good fit for the 2 of us and would suit 2 children too, but 2 more adults might have felt a bit crowded. At first we thought it was going to be cold, but we were very warm and cosy thanks to the heat pump and underfloor heating in the bathroom. The bathroom is very good and the kitchen had everything we could want.
The Woodman Inn is almost next door (back entrance through gate) and Fountain Inn a short walk away; both produced large tasty meals. Further afield, the Speech House also had great meals.
We were entertained by the birds coming to the feeder in the back garden, even seeing a great spotted woodpecker and siskin. RSPB Nagshead was a bit of a walk down the road, easily done an somehting you could do in an evening to stretch your legs.
The few downsides: The access is a green lane behind The Woodman Inn and a green lane, so if you were precious about your car, you might find that awkward, and the parking was fine.
There is a set of steps down to the front door which is something people with mobility problems might dislike (we are around 70). Inside the house stairs are fewer than usual without a bannister on the open side so small children might have to be watched.
We had a lovely week here.
