Great property, great value
Gorgeous property. The old palace style is restored and renovated well. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Wish we had more time, but our airline buggered that.

Rustic, but a bit worn down
This hotel perhaps used to be a luxury hotel back in the day, but it has shown signs of wear and tear. My friend and I had two twin beds and it was a bit small. I must admit I loved the hallways and artwork and the architecture definitely felt like an old colonial hotel. The buffet breakfast was quite good. The hotel grounds seems to be a popular spot for weddings, since 2 out of 4 nights at this hotel had large, loud weddings (they did get quiet late at night). There was what seemed to be a nice, clean pool (not heated).

Decent, but not great
It’s a strange hotel. It was kind of cool to stay here for a night just because of the history and overall splendor of the exterior, but it’s not nearly as nice as the Radisson or Ambasaador, which are right next to the Shankar. It was under a lot of construction and I’d be interested in seeing it again when they are done working on it.

soso
nice atmosphere at the hotel. front desk is horrible. when asked about restaurant recommendation, staff reply was "exit the hotel, turn right or turn left..." location is a bit far from everything given katmandus road condition. cab ride required. breakfast is hit and miss.
