Great hotel, but our window opened to an alley and it was extremely noisy. The garbage truck came in the middle of the night and people were going through the trash containers on other nights, so it was pretty bad. The hotel itself is great though.

St Pat's party
Evidently on St. Patrick's Day there is typically a very loud rock concert in an alley just outside the hotel that lasts until midnight. Then begins the very noisy cleanup including lots of dumpster moving, stage breakdown etc. which lasts the rest of the night. Stay someplace else on March 17 unless you like to party. Otherwise, the best thing about the hotel is its location. It's reasonably (but not perfectly) clean and comfortable.

After a long flight, the most appreciated thing was being able to check in early. The room was clean.

Fun towel animals
No A/C; small room; bathroom was old with little water pressure and a wrap-around shower curtain that you had to fight with as you took a shower.

Great hotel for a short visit
The Baldwin is good place to stay if you are just visiting for a couple of days. Hotel is quiet (even on the street side, which is where we were) and well run. Excellent restaurants and Chinatown right on the doorstep, Union Square a couple of blocks away. Minor negatives - very slow elevator, small bed in our room (a double rather than a queen), and short on furniture - an armchair would have been useful. Parking is off-site, and expensive, but not far away. Overall, a good experience.
