Well located, comfortable but dated hotel
The hotel is very located with access from Paddington Station. Arrived around 1:30pm (a little early for check-in), room was not ready and so left luggage and returned after 4pm. When I returned they had to check to see if the room was ready and I was left feeling quite uneasy as they made calls to housekeeping. This took too long and did not feel professional or efficient. Booked a terrace suite room with lounge access. The bar fridge was out of order and with a note that if you wanted drinks to phone through and order. Safe also not able to be used as it was locked open. I would not expect these sort of issues at a Hilton. As I was only staying one night I did not bother following up. The lounge was comfortable and the evening drinks and food options ok. It is self service and staff keep to themselves. Breakfast was limited in the lounge but fine to get the day started, The coffee machine in the lounge produced terrible coffee. The room was comfortable and nicely set up. The balcony was open to the adjacent room and had a nice view over he local area. Overall the stay was fine. The hotel is a tad dated but the location and access from Paddington Station was very convenient. The hotel was not as good as I had expected, mostly let down by the check in experience but the room was comfortable and was sufficient for a single night when transiting through London.

Poor 2.0
Horrible management and front desk support staff.
When I checked into room 536, the heating system was at 25.9 C (78.6) degrees. I was unable to change the temperature. I called the front desk that evening after 10:00pm to report he heat. They sent a mechanic, who had a fan. He said he did not know how to work the heating system. I plugged in the fan and tied open the window with the help of the mechanic. Next morning at 8:30am I went to the front desk to ask to fix the system. The woman said she would send someone up. I returned at 12:30pm, nothing had been done. I called the front desk, the front clerk acknowledged the problem I was sent to a number that no one answered. I called the front desk no one acknowledged my call, was sent directly to music. I called again, sent to music no acknowledgement. I called again, was sent to the number no one answered. I went down and asked to speak with the afternoon manager, he came, and said he would send someone to my room. I was out till 11:30pm, nothing had changed in the room - I called the front desk and said how frustrated I was, the person who answered apologized. I said I am only calling to document my frustration and wanted compensation. (They claim I was offered a different room I was not) I would not have moved given all the effort anyways. I spoke with the same manager as before and he admitted there was something wrong with the system and I asked for compensation. He said they would call and never did. I am reaching out to Hilton.

Fair 4.0
The service is so bad, it's difficult to believe this is a Hilton. We checked in late in the evening, after a major flight delay had caused us to miss our train, but well within the published opening times for the hotel restaurant and bar. However, upon check-in, we were rudely informed that the hotel kitchen was already closed and that the bar was closing early as well but that room service would be available. We asked the concierge about open restaurants outside the hotel and he told us there were none that he knew of. This turned out not to be true. We went up to the room, called room service, and were rudely told that the only food available was pre-made sandwiches, and no drinks -- we would have to use the mini bar if we wanted anything. We asked the desk clerk to add our Hilton honors number to our reservation, but were told they didn't do that" -- it was apparently our responsibility to do it when we made the reservation. We asked for a plastic bag for our ice bucket, but were told that housekeeping was gone for the night and they couldn't help us. We left the hotel at that point to find some dinner and drinks, discovering that we were surrounded by restaurants and bars that, had we gone to them when we first checked in and asked the concierge for recommendations, would have been able to serve us with no problem. Bottom line -- this hotel does not really care about service; it's just a bed.

Very Good 8.0
The hotel and rooms were clean and very presentable. The room windows were well insulated. We were on the 2nd floor facing Praed and the only noise we heard were ambulance or police sirens, which was rare to hear. My main complaint was the elevators. It has 3 elevators and for 4 days only 1 of them worked. During my 5 night stay the 3rd elevator never worked. Lucky we were only on the 2nd floor so walking the stairs were the best option. We tried to take the elevators a couple of times but the wait and line of people would mean waiting for 2 elevators before we could get on them.

Exceptional 10.0
Adjoining Paddington Station, after 6 am
We chose the hotel as we wanted a very early morning ride to the airport on the Heathrow Express and paid the premium over other nearby hotels as we read about their back door into the station. However please be warned that that door is locked from midnight to 6am. There are 2 swing doors ( not automatic) and several short flights of stairs to negotiate with your luggage. Our room 325 was also a very long walk to the lifts. So all in we could have stayed at another hotel at 1/2 the price and walked about the same distance. Check in and check out was quick and efficient as it was all prepaid through Expedia. Staff were polite and clinical except for the porter who was very chatty and nice. The corridors are like a maze, you can actually get a bit lost! The room actually looks better than the pictures in Expedia. The shower is dangerous. Steaming hot water comes out and takes a long time to turn cool enough to touch and then turns hot again halfway during your shower. Minibar was a bit of a nuisance. No freezer and we had to trek a long way to the lifts to get ice. We like to have fridges in room so we can buy our own stuff but they have a system where the bar automatically charges your account if you move their bottles out of the way. The safe was right on the floor so you have to kneel and bend low to see to set the combination and remove things. notnideal for people with bad knees.
