Clean, hospitable, but lumpy beds and loud place
I needed a place to stay for an early flight. I wouldn't stay here again. The rooms were big and spacious, the staff courteous and helpful, the room clean, and the breakfast great in the morning. However, the bed was very hard and lumpy. Plus, I had a room by the parking lot and it was much louder than I expected. The neighborhood itself seemed a bit sketchy- the only plus being a grocery store and nearby donor kebab place. If you don't mind the noise, a lumpy bed, a slightly sketchy neighborhood, and the 15 minute walk from the tube station ( or 5 minute bus ride), this may be a good place for you. I just couldn't get a good night's rest there.

Bad location, not a great place to stay, but cheap
I probably would not stay here again. This hotel is located quite a ways from downtown london - about 45 minutes by public transit from paddington station (mostly on the First Great Western). It's also in a slightly dodgy part of town, does not offer real hotel amenities, and is not priced like a hostel -- breakfast, service, and accommodations are all barebones at best, lacking at worst. Example: no shampoo offered, only the world's most uncomfortable bar soap. Given a choice, I'd probably opt for another spot closer to downtown -- either pay more or do a hostel.

Disappointing for a 3 star rating
A primary reason I selected this hotel was based on its 3 star rating, but I was very disappointed and surprised by the facility; I believe it should have been rated a 2 star due to the following: steep and narrow stairways, no elevator, obviously old building which seriously needs updating, disturbing odor on the first floor (which may have been an attempt to cover up something), very old carpeting. The staff was friendly enough and very responsive to our requests. The room was spacious (by European norms) but the uses radiators for heating; they readily provided a supplemental electric heater at our request. The bathroom had been recently refurbished, but the shower (using a tankless waterheater) was very difficult to keep at a constant temp. Neighborhood was evidently middle class (based on observed housing and prevalence of upscale vehicles), but it is a 0.7 mile walk to nearest subway station.
