Not as satisfied
My room was D1 right next to kitch. It smelled. The hotel looked a bit old and tired.

Bad location, not a great place to stay, but cheap
I probably would not stay here again. This hotel is located quite a ways from downtown london - about 45 minutes by public transit from paddington station (mostly on the First Great Western). It's also in a slightly dodgy part of town, does not offer real hotel amenities, and is not priced like a hostel -- breakfast, service, and accommodations are all barebones at best, lacking at worst. Example: no shampoo offered, only the world's most uncomfortable bar soap. Given a choice, I'd probably opt for another spot closer to downtown -- either pay more or do a hostel.

Disappointing for a 3 star rating
A primary reason I selected this hotel was based on its 3 star rating, but I was very disappointed and surprised by the facility; I believe it should have been rated a 2 star due to the following: steep and narrow stairways, no elevator, obviously old building which seriously needs updating, disturbing odor on the first floor (which may have been an attempt to cover up something), very old carpeting. The staff was friendly enough and very responsive to our requests. The room was spacious (by European norms) but the uses radiators for heating; they readily provided a supplemental electric heater at our request. The bathroom had been recently refurbished, but the shower (using a tankless waterheater) was very difficult to keep at a constant temp. Neighborhood was evidently middle class (based on observed housing and prevalence of upscale vehicles), but it is a 0.7 mile walk to nearest subway station.

A good local option
The hotel is a bit of a warren (narrow passages, lots of stairs), but the room was clean and comfortable with all the basic amenities (en-suite bathroom, TV, central heating, ceiling fan, kettle with tea, wi-fi), if perhaps on the small side. The staff were friendly and efficient. The price was reasonable and included a good cooked breakfast. The place isn't the Ritz and the neighbourhood isn't Mayfair, but it's not too far out of town; the mainline railway station (Hanwell) is a slow 10 minute walk (trains to Paddington and Heathrow) though hard to find; the nearest tube (Boston Manor) a 5 minute bus ride (15 minute walk), and Heathrow is close enough for the jet noise to be loud with the windows open. It also has a fantastic Indian restaurant on the premises. It was fine for me as a single traveller and I'd recommend it for anyone needing to be in the area, or on a budget. There looked to be plenty of parking out the back, but I was on public transport so that didn't concern me.

Convenient, clean and wonderful staff.
Lovely staff, clean room, quiet, good breakfast, great for an overnight stay for us to do a course in London. The tube was an easy 10 min walk and it is only 30 min to Leicester Square tube station. A lovely park just down the road to walk in. They were happy for us to park our car in the free parking all Saturday even though we only booked in at 7pm after the first day of the course.
