My money held hostage in Visalia

We usually stay at Motel 6 because of their pet friendly policy, we chose this one I Visalia due to its proximity to Sequoia national park. I was surprised upon checking in to be asked for a sixty dollar damage deposit in cash. I've been told a deposit would be put on my credit card a few times, but never cash. If you are going to ask for a deposit you have to know the exact condition of the room. Our room had so many disgusting stains on the bed-spreads and blankets there is no way they could document them all. You don't want spend your stay worrying if the disgusting bed stains will be attributed to you. Upon checking out I voiced my displeasure with this policy and the condition of the room but was only met with rude indifference by the manager. I did get my deposit back. I have always had good experiences at Motel 6 so I was definitely surprised to find that this one is a no go.
