Summer in Playa de el Carmen
It was a great location and hotel condition for my wife and I. Very pleased of the all inclusive package. We will return with our kids.

Great Place to Stay!
Spent 5 night at the Riu Palace Mexico. Everything was fantastic, especially the staff and the specialty restaurants.

Beautiful spot!
This hotel is beautiful! I love the modern decor. I like the way the pools are laid out since they have several small pools instead of one large one. That way there seemed to be a lot of pool side chairs available. The resort isn't too large, which was nice. It didn't feel overcrowded. I also like the fact that it was a quick $7 cab ride to town. We chose to eat dinner in Playa Del Carmen a couple times. There were a couple things that bothered me. I think there was something wrong with the AC. The room was always cool-- but everything was damp to the touch. Like there was too much moisture in the room. The bathroom is completely open, there is no door closing off the bath and shower. It didn't bother me and my mom, but if you are staying with a friend-- y'all better not be shy. And finally, the food. I have mixed opinions. The dinners at the sit down restaurants were really good! The coffee shop made a great cappuccino. (Although I wish it opened before 10am). My concern was at the buffet. The food is good, but the choices didn't change much. And a couple of times the food wasn't hot. It was cooked, just not the right temperature. I bit into a cold egg roll once. Overall-- I enjoyed my stay. The service was amazing; the people were great. I would definitely stay again.

This is a very large all-inclusive resort with unlimited food and drinks, nightly performances, a beautiful beach with lots of free activities (kayaking, off the beach snorkeling, catamarans), and a lot of optional paid activities. For what it is, RIU Palace Mexico does it well. Don't expect a lot of privacy or intimacy. The clientele when we were there is largely age 40-70 year olds with some newly weds thrown in and a few family with kids.

Overall great, but main pool used to be better.
We are repeat customers and would recommend this place but have noticed some changes. Pros: Nice beach with shade, good food, very friendly attentive service, beautiful property in Playacar. Cons: Since we visited last year, they now allow children in the pool that has the swim-up bar. Even babies in diapers. Guests were calling that pool the "cloud pool" because the water was so murky. Disgusting. Kids were splashing pool water into our drinks. I'm very disappointed in this and don't understand this policy change because there are 5 other pools! Also, the rains have taken their toll on buildings. We saw plenty of leaks and many walls with water filled pockets that need scraping and painting. They seems to do a great job maintaining the grounds, so I'm sure they'll fix this soon. Finally, be sure to bring ear plugs if you want to sleep all night or past 7am. The halls have loud echo and every morning I woke up from slamming doors, employees on walkie talkies, and screaming kids.
