Say YES to the St. David's!
Overall the hotel is wonderful but the excellent service is what really made our stay magical. We came in as a last minute booking after our previous accommodations didn't work out, on the very last weekend of our honeymoon. The staff welcomed us warmly, found us an excellent room on the top floor with the most beautiful view of the water and harbor, and even gifted us a bottle of Prosecco since we'd had a rough day getting there. Prior to arriving we'd been doing our best at making the best of things, but they really turned things around for us that day and sent us back to honeymoon-land. :) We spent what was left of our evening relaxing in the spa together and then lingered over really delicious wine and food in the hotel restaurant. Again, excellent service and a very warm and welcoming environment. My only critical comment about the room is that the bed was king-sized overall but was actually two smaller mattresses side-by-side, which were fairly comfortable but nothing special as far as mattresses go. Not bad, but not the kind of bed you sink into with fluttering eyelids. Also this split-style of mattress seems fairly common in the UK so I'm not sure I'd hold it against them. The area around the hotel is nice for walking, even at night, and has many bars and restaurants along with the harbor attractions. And it's just a quick ~10 minute ride to the downtown area by Cardiff Castle for more sightseeing and pub-hopping. I definitely recommend the St. David's.

Will not return
The staff was very rude during check-in and seemed very frustrated that we did not arrive until 20:00 in the evening. The maid knocked on our door to clean our room at 07:00 the following morning. When we asked her to come back, as our family was still asleep, she informed us that she would not and that we could not have new towels later in the day since we were not willing to accept the early room cleaning. Parking was very difficult to attain. The bathroom was not clean. We were very frustrated at the service and cleanliness given the price of this hotel in comparison to others in the area.

Great stay in Cardiff
Very nice upscale hotel within walking distance of Cardiff waterside...Mermaid Pier, Doctor Who Experience, numerous restaurants. Pool in spa was very nice, though a little hard to figure out where it was and how to get in. Breakfast was good and offered many choices. Only wish there had been a refrigerator in room. Our view was stunning, great value for the price!

Wonderful location for exploring Cardiff Bay
Aside from expensive overnight parking this was a wonderful stay. The Spa was a welcome treat after a day of hiking. Comfortable room with great view of the Bay. Only issue is the recurring problem of bookings getting the rooms on the lowest floors with minimum amenities.
