Very Good 8.0
This is your typical urban hotel--the rooms are on the small side, and the walls are on the thin side--but you don't choose this hotel for its amenities, but for its location, which is perfect. Half a block from the middle of the Royal Mile, where Edinburgh Castle and the Holyroodhouse Palace, and everything in between, are both an easy walk, I couldn't have asked for a more convenient location. The bed was comfortable, the room clean, the breakfast acceptable. The walls were a bit thin, and noise did come in from outside, but when you're in the middle of a city, that happens. I turned the tv on low and it was enough to cover the noise so I could sleep. Really my only actual critique is that the staff could be more knowledgeable about things in the area, like places to eat later in the evening. Two caveats: 1. Being located in a place where it's usually not necessary, there is no a/c. Not a problem for me, visiting in October, but I wouldn't want to be there at the height of a heatwave. That can be said about most places in Edinburgh, though. 2. I was traveling by myself, so the smaller room wasn't an issue. However, I don't know how comfortable it would be had my spouse been with me. Especially since even with just myself in the room, I still kept bumping into the wall-mounted television. I think it really depends on who is in the room and your own preferences for amount of space, but it is something you would want to consider, for full comfort.

Loud but friendly service
Just a loud part of town. If ear plugs don't work for you and you're even a mildly light sleeper somewhere else might be a better fit. I stayed on a wednesday and it was loud outside until 4am and I didn't sleep. Even with earplugs in. My room was unusually small which wasn't a bit deal for me but worth mentioning. Parking is a five minute walk away and there isn't a designated spot in front of the hotel to park and check in - I almost got a ticket for parking out front while I was checking in. Cool little bar in the lobby and friendly staff. Good chocolate biscuits instead of shortbread in the room which mixed it up a little :)

Just steps from the Royal Mile and the bus stop to the Airport. This place is in the center of all things you need to do or go to in Edinburgh. We walked everywhere around the city due to it's Central location.

Best central location in Edinburgh
Outstanding location and staff. They had a small fan for the room due to warm weather, but window only opened 2" and it was very noisy. Modern and up to date. Modern shower was great. Very welcoming staff. Yummy French butter croissants for breakfast.

Nice budget hotel on the Royal Mile
My wife and I stayed here during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The hotel was in the middle of the action, which made it a bit loud at night, but that was the only negative. The staff were super helpful, the morning breakfast was great. The room was not too small but well appointed. The value was good.
