Wonderful old-world hotel; adjust your expectation
I felt compelled to write this after reading some of the negative reviews which say things like "small room," "a bit old," "a bit dated," or "small elevator." Guys, it's a TWO STAR HOTEL. France has a strict hotel evaluation system; only five-star hotels are guaranteed to provide things like air conditioning, parking, room service, a concierge, a large room, and baggage service. You can get ALL those things-- if you pay $300 a night. I stayed for two nights in October. The room was recently renovated in the "IKEA" style and featured a full-size bathtub. I was recovering from a bike trip and I sat in the bathtub for an hour every night, soaking my bones and drinking wine. The bed was fine. No street view, but that also means no traffic noise. If you poke around downstairs you'll discover a wonderful Art Deco bar room dating from before the war-- it made me want to find a jazz band and start slinging drinks. I'm not saying you shouldn't be happy with your stay. If you have a complaint, report it and see if they're able to help. But tailor your expectations. Hotel Helder was one of only three hotels in the center of France's third-largest city for less than €50. For me, France's Two-Star Hotels are a national treasure. Often they are unique, family owned, in historic buildings with antique furnishings, and if you look carefully you can see and feel the spirit of a bygone era. Best of all, they're AFFORDABLE. And yes-- worn around the edges sometimes.

Exceptional 10.0
Very polite staff, fast WiFi, free breakfast, clean and well-organized rooms. Found it rather odd that the room keys have to be left at the front desk every time you leave, but I’m sure there’s a reason for it. Overall a very nice place to stay. Would definitely recommend.

Horrible Hotel
I booked a room I got there and the receptionist informed me that the room was not available after I was there for hours trying to figure out she comes up to me and say that all of a sudden there's a room available he was very unhelpful and very rude .

Poor 2.0
Throw your money in the bin
not recommended to anybody, spending a lit bit higher and get a much better room , when I walked around there were a lot more suitable hotels there . And inside the room smell like it was a sheep there . Heater did not work . when I ask one of the receptions and asking to fix the internet connection , he said we are planning to exchange the system , it's like a taxi with puncturing tyre which trying to get a passenger .
