Perfect end to St. Cuthbert's Way.
We had hiked St. Cuthbert's way from Melrose in the Scottish Borders to Holy Island.
The final walk across the sands to Lindisfarne was an awe-inspiring end to our journey.
Now, it was time to kick back and relax, the staff at the Crown & Anchor were so helpful, they let us stash our rucksacks at the Inn early in the morning so we could explore unencumbered.
After a good mooch around the Island, we returned to check in and were delighted by our lovely room (no. 3) which had a sea view and views over to Bamburgh Castle.
Time for a few pints in the lovely Beer garden and the Tyneside Blonde was a great pint, well-kept and very quaffable.
The beauty of staying on the island was evident in the afternoon after the day-trippers had departed, it was so peaceful and quiet. Bliss.
The evening meal did not disappoint, both my wife and I agreed that the Scotch Egg with Craster Kipper was the best thing we had ate on our entire hike. Well done to the chefs.
A few more pints, a great night's sleep and a lovely breakfast rounded off a great stay.
I would not hesitate to recommend the Crown & Anchor, the staff are attentive and friendly, the food is excellent and the room was perfect. If you're planning to visit Holy Island, the Crown & Anchor is definitely the place to stay.
