Conveniently located gem
We really enjoyed this hotel. The room was not large but it was comfortable and very nice,y decorated. The location was very convenient for access to transport anywhere in the city. Like all Basel hotels, they gave us a free Basel card which enabled us to use public transport without charge. We were told (too late) that we could have got on the bus from the airport free by showing our hotel reservation if an inspector got on. Nobody checked our ticket anyway! The hotel offers an excellent breakfast buffet in a beautiful room. Staff were friendly and helpful and all spoke English. We were concerned at first about night time noise, but the room had electrically operated shutters we closed at night which kept it quiet enough and we were not disturbed. We enjoyed our two night stay and would have been happy to stay longer.

Super convenient and lovely Swiss Hotel
The Gaia Hotel is located conveniently within a short walk of the Basel main Swiss railway station. Perfect if your coming into Basel and are not familiar with the area. It is also located very close to the tram stations where you can easily and comfortably get around Basel. If you stay directly in Basel your hotel will give you a Mobility Card which will allows you to use the trams and buses free of charge. The hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff is extra friendly and helpful. The rooms are on the small side if your used to US type business hotels, however they are adequate and comfortable. The shower and bed linens and the entire hotel are very very clean. I would say the beds are not business travelers beds. They are a single mattress, and have a plastic covering underneath the sheet which makes the mattress hot to sleep on. There are no king size beds, but the staff will move two twin beds together and it's pretty close. WiFi is free and easy. Most of the staff speaks English. There is a mini bar with water and juice that gets restocked every other day, which is a very nice feature. Breakfast is included in the room price and is served in a lovely room with a lovely staff, with a super selection that is mostly organic. The nice thing about the Gaia is that the staff is warm and welcoming and if you have an extended stay, they will greet you by name when you go in and out. I think its the best hotel in the area around the train station. Recommended!

Value and Convenience
Nice place and convenient location. I thought that it would be noisy based on its location across from the train station. It was not noisy at all. The window and curtain combination made it dark and silent. The breakfast was good. The ratings for breakfast were really high and made me want to stay there. The high expectations were met with a good/decent breakfast, not great. The staff was quite pleasant. A good value for the money.
