Poor 2.0
Horrible security service, old room, stinky carpet
If you are Asian female and your significant other is not Asian, DO NOT stay at Caravelle to save yourself from humiliation. I had a horrible experience with security service at Caravelle that quite frankly, was very disturbing. I am Vietnamese and my husband is Caucasian. It was the first time we stayed there so we went to check out the Saigon bar on L9/10 on the first night. The hotel has a weird setup that to get back to the hotel resident area from this bar, you need to go through a door on level 9. As we just passed through, I was stopped by a security guy asking if we stayed there. I gave him our room number and he said in Vietnamese, "This guy checked in but YOU didn't. You have to go down to check in." I was quite surprised because 1) how did he assume that when it was the first time he had seen us, 2) he didn't verify with any staff, 3) he didn't ask, he made a statement based on his own assumption. When I told him that the room was booked under my name and "this guy" is my husband, and that he should call down to reception to check, he let us go. The very next day I made a complaint with the hotel staff, they received the feedback but for the rest of our stay they did not follow up with any action that would make us feel like this is a 5* hotel. Had we not paid for the entire stay in advance through hotels.com, we would have checked out right away. To be honest, besides low quality service, the hotel is old and has stinky smell. Won't stay there ever again.

Poor 2.0
Dont go please
The hotel is very nice. Good location and services also good food but.....hope you never have a problem. My daughter got robbed on the street that the councierge told her to go! Just 5 minutes after she got out if the taxi! She went back to the hotel thinking maybe they woyld know what to do. To her surorise the first guestion that they asked her was if she had money to pay the hotel wich she had already paid for with hotels.com. from that moment on it was just a nightmare! First they told her she had to cheack out the next day. She didnt have her passport so she was unable to leave until she could speak to her ambassy. After beeing insulted by several personel of the hotel we moved to the sheraton were we explained what had happened and they helped us out. The most unrespectable person I have ever met was mr morgan. He laught at my daughter and tolf her the hotel had no time for us. As you can ckeck I travel a lot and always write reveiws of my trips so Im a frwcuent flyer and so is my daughter. We were four people that had to j7st keave the hotel. My daughter is still in vietnam with her fiancee because they still dont have the passports. So as you can see the location or room servuces are not enoygh to make a hotel a 5 stars! Please dont go they just want your money!

Good 6.0
Good hotel but AVOID the 24th floor
The hotel was very nice and the staff lovely. I do have two big concerns though. I had two bookings the first one was the non-executive booking (i.e. the cheapest). Upon check in I feel I was conned into upgrading to the executive level (xtra USD50 per night). It seemed good value until I found out from a guest by the pool that the special on was breakfast was only USD5 - made it less worthwhile upgrading to the executive level. Second booking was the executive level where I paid at booking for the executive level. The problem with this was that we were put on the 24th floor. It was a nightmare - our room was just under the emergency generator which when goes (often too) like being in a room with a helicopter!. I had just got to sleep about 10.30pm - last night and was rudely awoken. Our phone did not work and I had to use my phone to call through NZ (very expensive) to the hotel to find what the problem was. My daughter went to see what was happening - as the lifts were not working walked down to the 9th floor where she could use a lift and the then a lift to the foyer. Then worried about me she walked up from the 9th floor to the 24th to let me know. After an hour we said we needed to move and started to pack all our stuff and just as we finished doing that the generator went off so we collapsed in bed exhausted. We COMPLAINED they were SORRY and did not charge me for one of the USD50 ugrades referred to above. NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A 5 STAR HOTEL!

Very Good 8.0
Lovely hotel, high end location
Entrance, lobby was lovely, as we had booked signature rooms, check in was done there comfortabley. I guess the only flows that I can put my finger on are as follows: as a family of 4 travelling with two teenagers I had requested a king bedroom and a twin, if possible next to each other, we were initially given Two twin bedrooms an were told it was our request! So things are taken very literally, this was addressed, then after 3 days of stay after completing a questionnaire whether we were offered an upgrade ( no we hadn’t, which was ok), then we were offered one for one of the rooms last two nights. So if we were eligible for one, it would have been nicer to have had it initially. The other thing was reminding house keeping to refill the bathroom caddy, and the way my daughter was told off when she had asked for extra bottle of water. I could hear it across from our room whilst they were in the corridor. If she wasn’t allowed to provide her with more, quite understandable, but not the tone and raising of her voice. We surely could have afforded .50 cents water. Otherwise all great, breakfast was really nice, some items weren’t replaced so need to ask for it eg. Detox water, take away breakfast for early flight was very limited (1 smoked salmon or cold cut small bagel, pastry and juice, coffee, not enough for good eaters ), and definitely can improve. Lovely pool, sauna and spa.

Exceptional 10.0
Legendary Caravelle, the best moment in HCMC!
I've stayed four nights for business trip. * Location(5/5) : Center of Dist.1, all of sightseeing are in less than 5~10min by taxi or Grab. CVS is near the hotel * Facility (5/5) : Highly composed both tradition and modern. Well built room. It supports IT devices, bluetooth speaker, big screen, several USB charging port, even HDMI :) * Comfort (5/5) : Sound proof window, carpet room/alley. (but hotel says it is experiencing re-novation, so some noise could be heard daytime) * Service (5/5) : The most memorable service in HCMC. All staffs are very kind, fluent English, sincere smile and helpful. Room call for service is also very quick. * Venues (5/5) : Legendary restaurant, cafe, bar, gym, spa, massage. We need more time to enjoy! :) * Visit again? : Definitely, yes! I wish I will visit for trip (not business :)
