The Grand Brighton, Brighton
Best place to stay in Brighton
Excellent hotel in every respect. Only downside is that the front of the building is undergoing major renovation and it is completely covered by white plastic sheets. There's probably no view from the rooms facing the seafront (i was in a rear facing room.)

PATHETIC to say the least.
horrible nightmare from heating system to floor of the room to discourteous front office women. they charge 10 pounds per hour after their checkout time of 12. Despite specific reservation of smoking room through HOTELS.COM. they did not mention that they do not have smoking rooms. I consumed a cigarette on my check out day in the room. to my utter surprise the lady at the front desk demanded 150 pounds fine for smoking in the room. I told that rude women that I booked a smoking room and there was no sign of no smoking in the room or on the floor or that anyone else informed me of no smoking policy during my one day stay. the front desk women asked my to show her my reservation as if I was making it up. I showed her on the booking. she said worst things about and became loud in front of other guests and my wife and said that it's illegal to smoke in GREAT BRITAIN. And she posed as if she would call police to get me arrested for smoking. I asked her to remain calm but she was posing as if she would not let me go out without paying the fine. I am a CEO of a public limited Asset Management Company and has never been to such an awkward position. my wife suggested me to pay them and leave that pathetic lady. I remained calm and handed that lady the hotel charges and the fine. before leaving I told that lady that I will write a review of the hotel and mention it Hotels are a hospitality industry and no one expects such behavior from front office people.

The Grand Brighton, Brighton
The only problem we had was with our bathroom and entrance to the bathroom. The shower curtain was far too short and not weighted enough to stay in the bath when we showered. Consequently the floor in the bathroom and foyer of the room near the bathroom entrance was wet, even from the last people that had used the room. A very simple solution to correct but it has ruined the flooring and is quite probably starting to leak below.. Great shame. But that is the only bad thing. The hotel is perfection and we love it.

The Grande Dame of Brighton Hotels
Although almost cancelled because it's behind scaffolding and plastic wrap, once inside it was the classic grande dame. No sea view but comfortable bed, strong shower and bounteous breakfast buffet. Very up-to-date with gluten-free offerings and homemade guacamole and grained breads as well as the more traditional bangers and stewed fruits. Hotel lobby is very bustling in a nice way. Walk to The Lanes or a string of restaurants on the waterfront. A+++

Aptly named "The Grand"
A beautiful, old historic hotel. The service was top notch and the complimentary breakfast was the best!!!! We loved our stay here. Great location. Comfy bed and linens. Easy walk to many attractions and shopping.
