Just okay, but we won't be staying again.
We booked a suite with two queen beds. What the hotel gave us was a suite with the bedroom having two twin beds and the sitting area having a queen bed. Our real issue is the bathroom in the suite. Both the toilet and the shower stall were really tiny. Moreover, the shower stall was all steel including floor which gets very slippery. However, there was no handle or rails to hold on while taking a shower. It is so very easy to slip while taking a shower, and an accident waiting to happen. Also, while the hostess Elena was okay, we were expecting a little more friendliness and hospitality from our hostess. She gave us additional tea bags and milk but only reluctantly. Overall, our experience was okay but we will not be staying at Argyle again.

Good for a quick stop
Hotel was in a good location, easy to walk to dining, shopping and parks. A little dated and stovetop was not fully functioning.

great stay!
We spent 2 nights in discos took #3 and loved it. Awesome location right across the street from the park. A short walk to the botanical gardens, a museum, info center, and free transfer buses to many of the sites. Plus it was very quiet. With nearby restaurants and shopping too. Awesome location! And friendly helpful owners too. Includes free transfer to the train from Peter (husband), which we used. And free WiFi that was fast, although we had to sign in again every time we returned to the hotel.

Awesome for the price!
Great people running this motel. The owner lends you umbrellas- we needed them our first day. The suite is very roomy and comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked. Location is perfect for walking to botanical garden and Canterbury Museum

A great stay! Good location, comfort, & amenities
My husband and I stayed at Argyle on the Park for the first three nights of our two-week vacation in New Zealand. We enjoyed Argyle on the Park so much, it became the positive standard to which the rest of our accommodations were compared! We visited at the end of autumn/beginning of winter, so it got dark early. This meant we spent a lot of time in our hotel room in the evening, and that wasn't a problem at all because the room was so comfortable. We had a small table to eat at as well as two armchairs. The bed was large and comfortable. The kitchenette contained the best selection of dishes and cookware we had the entire trip (there was even a small plunger and a teapot for loose leaf tea!). My only criticism is that the toilet was a little small, but that wasn't a problem. The location is great. The hotel is right across the street from Christchurch's largest park. A grocery store wasn't too far away, and we saved money by making our own meals in the room. The hotel has a hot tub (you just need to notify the staff that you plan to use it at least 2 hours in advance), which was very nice and a great way to unwind when you're feeling jet lagged. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend it.
