Beyond Resort Kata, Karon

This a great resort, and one of only a few that is actually on the water in Kata (the others being club med and the Boathouse, I believe). I can’t stress the value of this location enough. Kata’s beach is actually mostly blocked by the wall around club med. You can only really access the beach along the northern end of the beach, or the southern end, and this is on the water in the south. If you stay in the middle you’ll have to walk a mile or more to get to the beach. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. The pool area is outstanding, and looks right out over the beach. There are chaise lounges right on the edge of the patio just above the beach. This is great for having an ocean view without being bothered by the vendors on the beach trying to sell you junk. And since the breeze is blowing off the ocean all day there were no mosquitos. The room was a bit dated, but very spacious, and had a large balcony. It smelled a bit like cigarettes when we arrived but after running the A/C for an hour or two the smell dissipated.

After a room was assigned to me at the property, entered the room and there were ants everywhere. I informed them about it and they showed me a different room. Upon checking the other room noticed there were ants in the room as well and as soon as I entered the bathroom there was a cockroach. One of the staff members who was showing the room took a tissue and killed the cockroach right in front of my eyes. I asked them to give me another room. After waiting for about 20 mins I was shown a third room and same it had ants as well. With a big heart I decided to take the first room we saw and asked them to do a room cleaning again. I waited outside and they started cleaning the room and brought bug spray with them. They were done cleaning in about 10-15 mins. After entering the room it smelled like bug spray so Unintentionally I had to leave the room and stay outside untill the smell of bug spray settled. Other things: No free wifi in the room Staff not helpful at all with the issues I faced even after paying premium price for the room. Property felt a bit older and not well maintained

Great location, beautiful resort, and very friendly staff. Unfortunately, the room was filled with cockroaches. We called the front desk multiple times but all they did was spray the drain pipe in our room, which did not stop them from coming. When it was time to check out and pay I wanted to speak to a manager. First, they kept telling me he would be in later and then they said he wouldn’t be back until 7am the next morning. They gave me an email to contact but we still have not heard back from him. We tried contacting the hotel via hotels.com but they have not reposnded through this medium either. I would not suggest this resort, unless you’re comfortable rooming with cockroaches during your stay.

Great trip to Phuket. Beyond Resort was in a beautiful location on Kata Beach. Would love to have seen the AMPLE staff at breakfast put to a better use. You don't need 10 people waiting on your table, replacing every plate, glass and utensil you use. It can become a little irritating even as polite as they were. Maybe a few of them could go down to the beach and collect some rubbish so the area stays pristine.

Nice hotel located right on the beachfront of Kata Beach. We had booked an ocean view room, and the room we received was exactly that along with overlooking the pool. I semi-freaked out the first day we got into our room when I saw little bugs crawling all over the pillows. They were not bed bugs but rather some type of little insects. However, there was a window in the hallway, right across from our room door, and when we first checked into our room, I noticed the window was open and I was confused as to why it would be open as it was ridiculously hot out, so all it was doing was letting in hot air into the hallway. I think that's probably how the bugs got into the room, since our door was directly across from the window in the hallway. Anyways, before I really freaked out I brushed them off the pillow, and checked the rest of the bed. Didn't see any more but then in the corner by the wall I saw some more again. It was so hot in the room so we turned on the air conditioning. we left and came back a few hours later and no bugs to be seen. All gone. Pretty sure the cold air conditioning kept them away, as we did not see them resurface in the room again. I know that insects are part of tropical climate, and any hotel can have them so after I was content it wasn't an issue, I had no problems to sleep in the bed. The room was very spacious and beds super comfy - we slept great. Our room had great view & the hotel itself was very nice inside & out. Food at restaurant was good.
