Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa, Ellesmere Port

When we arrived at the hotel it looked great - the buildings are located in beautiful wooded grounds with plenty of parking. From then on it went downhill. The room was spacious, but was showing signs of wear although reasonably clean. We had an evening meal in the restaurant. It was quite a long wait to order drinks and food, so we ordered both at the same time. Mistake! Appetizers were finished before the drinks arrived, and although the menu looked interesting the food when it came was nothing special. It was then a long wait for desserts - eventually we grew tired of sitting looking at empty glasses so gave-up and found someone for the bill

The hotel still permits smoking immediately outside the front reception doors which is most unfortunate; it's disgusting to inhale second hand smoke on a beautiful sunny morning when all you want is a deep breath of fresh air! Otherwise hotel is good as ever and I would recommend.

Room very noisy. Could hear next door snoring and people talking on the corridor. Hair dryer didn’t work. Double bed uncomfortable. Pillows flat as pancakes & no spares in the room. Blackout curtain linings had holes in. Bath dangerously slippery.

Lovely hotel and grounds and friendly, attentive staff. Clean and tidy throughout the hotel although a bit dated in places.
