The Elk & Avenue Hotel, Banff
I was a bit disappointed. They have nice pictures of the lobby but it didn’t reflect the finish in the rooms. We were upgraded to a loft unit which sounds good but it had no couch and metal/plastic chairs. The ceilings are low in the corridors with old ceiling tiles. It appeared that they dressed up an old 70’s hotel with some modern finishes. We also could not fit our rented Suburban in the garage and had to find street parking. (Too high for the garage) The best part was it’s location to downtown. Not a bad place but not what we expected.

Nice, comfortable hotel with GREAT staff
My husband and I stayed at Elk & Ave for 6 nights over Christmas 2017. I have little-to-no complaints about the hotel, it was wonderful. The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. But, what made this hotel great was the staff. The front desk staff, especially Karen and Liv, were always friendly and enormously helpful in where we wanted to go. When I told her we wanted to go to Cave and Basin, Karen suggested we hike up the upper board walk to see the hot springs falls. It was beautiful and I'm not sure I would have gone up there without her suggestion! (Thank you!) It was always pleasure chatting with them! The only minor issue I had was with the wifi being slow while trying to video chat with my family on Christmas, but that was very minor especially since my cell service worked just fine. Also be aware there are a set of interior rooms with a view of a roof and skylight. This didn't matter to us since we were outside most of the time anyways, but if you want and exterior view make sure you book a room one or ask about it. Overall, we had a great stay at Elk & Ave and would definitely recommend it when staying in Banff.

Spacious, clean, and cozy room
Spacious, clean room and bathroom. Comfy bed. Eco-friendly w/ incentive - if you turn down housekeeping for the day, they offer a $5 voucher at Ricky's (we didn't need our room cleaned every day so that was a nice bonus). Good amenities - tv/cable, good wifi service, fridge and Keurig, and electric kettle. Toiletries provided in the bathroom. There was supposed to be a jacuzzi and sauna but never got to use it. Free underground parking was great, especially since it snowed 2 of the 5 days we were there. Restaurant (Ricky's) for breakfast and RG Bar was in the lobby, supermarket and coffee shop was just around the corner of the hotel on Elk and Banff Ave and the hotel was on the main downtown street - Banff Avenue - convenient and walkable to everywhere.

Very Good8.0
Nice stay
Nice hotel. Renovations are nice but they forgot to do the elevators and the grunginess takes away from the decor. Small issue. But the rooms were nice and beds pretty comfy. I liked that they use fitted sheets in their beds which can be rare! Our only issue was that the room was lacking in mirrors. It would've been nice to have a mirror other than the bathroom mirror.
