The Prince, St Kilda
Not what it says!!
Was no tub/shower combo as we booked for. Neither was there a sofa or seating area as was booked. Room was no better than a regular hotel room which is not what it looks like in pictures or in their descriptions. Bar is at street level and music and noise goes well into the wee hours, wasn't nice to sleep to!!

Very Good8.0
Won over by the breakfast
We had a 4 night stay at the Prince which started out poorly but got better by the day. Cons: We booked a deluxe room but it looked more like a boutique room which is smaller. The receptionist insisted that our room was a deluxe, so don't expect your room will look exactly like the photo in the website. We visited in winter (August) and the heating broke down a few times so eventually we got a portable heater in the room. We couldn't find tissues in the room, and finally found them in the floor of the closet, along with the hair dryer. Both were covered in dust which was disappointing. I even relocated the tissue box to the dresser, yet housekeeping never bothered to wipe the dust off (after 4 nights stay) Also, there was no bottled water in the room. Pros: The neighborhood is quite nice with a good selection of restaurants. The hotel helped us to book a table at a popular Italian restaurant in the neighborhood on a Friday night. The receptionist/concierge was also very enthusiastic to help us on numerous occasions, one of which was helping us with city + airport transportation inquiries. And finally - the breakfast. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant Circa, which is one of the fine dining restaurants in the neighborhood, is really well done. The menu is diverse and the ingredients are so fresh and tasty. By the end of our 4 day stay, we were able to overlook the cons mentioned above. Overall it was an enjoyable stay and we think this hotel is a special one.

Stylish hotel, great location, amazing restaurant
Great stay - stylish hotel, great rooms, excellent value, superb restaurant - dinner and breakfast. Great location just near the bay in St Kilda, tram on the doorstep. Favorite Melbourne hotel.

The Prince, St Kilda
We have stayed at The Prince many times and loved it but never again. We accept that being a venue for weddings and live music, that there will be disturbances to sleep but we got zero sleep on our second night due to other hotel guests climbing out their windows to chat and smoke on the roof right outside our window. We called reception at about 4am to let them know but nothing was done and they were there till 7am. Happy for other guests to be up having a good time but I had a seminar the next day and felt awful after missing an entire night sleep. Was our favourite Hotel in StKilda but sadly won’t return as it’s like sleeping in a frat house!

Noisy party venue
The rooms are gorgeous and stylish but the venue also hosts parties and the noise can be clearly heard from the room. They had a wedding on the night we were there and it felt like we were staying at a nightclub, and although the staff tried to ask the partygoers to keep on down, it didn’t work. Sleep was out of the question that night. I don’t think you can run a party venue and a hotel where people sleep at the same time.
